Maybe the Bears really like what they see in Beekman, but didn't want to let him play over the "veterans" last year. Of course, not having heard anything of the like, I guess that's not true. Even if it was, getting a veteran OG to push Garza out of the lineup would be just as beneficial as having the vet start at LG.

They had no chance of winning last year, putting a tackle at guard over Beekman. I think it was just poor decision making rather than protecting Beekman.

I wish I was wrong, but they haven't give Bears fan the best history in that regard.

It'd be financially irresponsible to go after another RB at 14 so soon after Benson was picked in the first round. I'd take Williams (or Malcolm Kelly) in this situation. More than likely, Angelo would trade down and if he can keep a first rounder and a late day 1 pick, that'd be splendid.

Why let sunk costs dictate how you spend your money in the future?

Salary cap.

I don't know exactly what the cap limit is and where the Bears are in reference to it. I want to say the cap is 119? Anyway, the cap wouldn't keep the Bears from taking Mendenhall.

ESPN now has their draft projects on the bottom line. Notables:

Clady to Denver at 12

Williams to Bears at 14

Mendenhall to Detroit at 15

I didn't know Detroit picked at 14, but even more reason for the Bears to take Mendenhall. Having to see Mendenhall twice a year running us over and then Adrian Peterson in Minnesota............ geez!

Angelo isn't going to pop for another 1st rd RB, unless it's Darren McFadden. And he shouldn't, there is absolutely NO NEED to have two first rd picks that are RBs on the roster. RB is a lower priority then OL, S, etc.

I disagree. The Bears can't pull a starting T out of this draft at #14 unless Clady falls which is unlikely. They have 2 OL spots to fill and it's unlikely that they'll get 2 starters out of the draft.

Personally, I don't really care if Benson is a 1st rounder or not. He's a bust and he's not going to help this team. Why people keep using him as an excuse for Angelos not to pick a RB is beyond me. Fix the line or not, Benson isn't the RB the Bears need to be successful.

Bear fans wonder if you could get a 6th rounder for Benson and then say the Bears shouldn't draft a RB. I don't get it!

Angelo isn't going to waste 1st rd money on another RB, period. That is just about as written in stone, as you can get. He may draft a RB (Slaton, Jones, in the 2nd rd or so) later in draft, but he isn't going to draft a RB, because quite frankly the OL is a higher priority then a RB.

So he'll overpay for an OT that may not even be able to play the position he need him to play and pass over someone who would solve a problem? Does that make sense to you?

By that logic he'll draft a player and not solve any problems, period.

I didn't say it made sense, I'm just saying that is what Angelo is prolly going to do. Personally, I don't see the Bears staying at 14. If they are going to draft a RB in the first rd, I expect them to trade down, and take either Jonathan Stewart or Felix Jones later in the 1st or early 2nd rd. But if they do stay at 14, I see them taking either Chris Williams or Sam Baker whoever is there, or god forbid if he is there, I could see Angelo taking Malcolm Kelly at 14. I just don't see the Bears taking a RB at 14.

Yeah whats up with no oline help. It aint like the FA guys are making money hand over fist.

Here is a highlight video of RB Chris Johnson.

This dude is freaking fast on the football field too. He blows the doors off of guys on a couple runs.

I've been thinking about this a bit this offseason. We haven't heard about him at all. Was he on the roster but inactive all year, or was there any injury issue? I feel like it's almost inevitable that he will have to play a lot this year. If he is decent, that would be a significant boost.

Trib[/url]"]Restricted free-agent Rashied Davis has drawn strong interest from Seattle and Kansas City, a source close to Davis said.

Buffalo also jumped into the mix Monday afternoon.

Davis, who received a tender offer of $927,000 from the Bears, has until April 18 to negotiate with other teams. The Bears have the right to match another team's offer, but because Davis came to the NFL from the Arena Football League in 2005, the Bears would not receive compensation if Davis signs elsewhere.

...............

Bears quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton was part of a large contingent of pro coaches and scouts in San Diego this past Friday watching Josh Johnson, the University of San Diego quarterback. Johnson (6-3, 200) who struggled with his throws at the NFL Scouting Combine due to a back injury, was on point throwing on his home turf. Johnson first created as buzz by running the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds at combine, tops among quarterbacks. … Expect the Bears to be at Vanderbilt University March 21 to watch Commodore offensive tackle Chris Williams perform. He might be worthy of the Bears’ No. 14 overall pick.

Usually no news is bad news when it comes to these guys. I feel like if he was even halfway decent we would have heard something. Haven't heard the first word about him, he's like a ghost.

He's junk just like all our other receivers, except Hester who can't remember the playbook.

It's a complete disaster.

I don't know about you guys but I don't care if Rashied Davis is gone. If anything, I would prefer to have him go elsewhere.

Yeah, he can go. If for nothing else but for the loss of incentive to ever play him over Mark Bradley again. If he does go though, the Bears special teams will look a lot different. Have lost a lot with Ricky Manning and Archuleta still possibly to go.

I don't see Archuleta gone. His salary is super cheap and considering the depth we need at safety, I'm almost sure he stays.

An empty jersey laid down on the field would be cheaper still, and would be better than Archuleta.

He'd be more expensive to cut than to keep, though, salary cap-wise. I guess it comes down to whether the roster spot or the cap room is more important.

Archuleta isn't going to be released, at least not yet. Davis, I am bleh on. If he return, it gives the WR battle so more competition, but if he goes, I pretty sure the Bears could upgrade in the draft.

I agree, I want him gone as well but I don't see the Bears doing it, not this year at least.

I'll be so pissed if our #1 draft pick is a QB. I don't care if it's Matt freakin' Ryan.

Ryan at 14 would be a steal. It's about where he should go, talentwise, but he's a QB, so he'll go top 7.

As for Flacco and Woodson, I would love one in the 3rd round. 2nd round, I don't know about either. Both seem like guys that need to be developed. Bears have nobody to develop a QB. With all the Bears needs, I'm more apt to try and develop a 3rd rounder, than a top 50 pick.

Mutual interest from Chris Brown, Bears?

By Vaughn McClure, 3:48 p.m.

There might be a homecoming for running back Chris Brown after all.

The former Naperville North star and unrestricted free-agent has attracted interest from the Bears, a source close to the player said Wednesday. Brown, who played with Tennessee this past season, signed with the Titans in June after talking with the Bears, signing a one-year, $1.8 million deal.

Brown is scheduled to visit Houston on Wednesday.

Brown's role was limited in 2007. He finished with 102 rushes for 462 yards and five touchdowns while playing behind LenDale White. Brown did have the Titans' longest rush of the season 42 yards.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Brown, who turns 27 next month, is known as an upright runner who has success with draws and catching balls out the backfield. The Bears need help at running back, with Cedric Benson still having a lot to prove and Adrian Peterson more of a third-down back.

The team could seek help through the draft as well.
