I am hoping a trade with Cincy getting fleeced goes through.

Keep hoping.

Votto for Blanton? Sure. Anything more? No way

Votto and Bailey or Cueto? Yeah right.

If all the Reds offer for Blanton is Votto, then they will do without him.

Why would the A's trade Blanton for one of Cincy's bench players?

And it's not like Oakland is short on first basemen.

It appears that the A's want Bailey or Cuetto + Votto+ another prospect for Blanton.

Link.

I would be very happy with that return for Blanton. Too bad he's not a reliever or the deal would already be done.

Joey Votto is a bench player for us?

That's news to me.

Give them a break. Their team is the poster child for sports futility so they get really excited whenever they see evidence of another poorly run organization.

Also, I've heard Cueto, not Votto, is the main piece Beane would be after. I doubt that happens either though. At least Dusty will think they tried.

That's okay. Admittedly, I was okay with the Cubs hiring Dusty back when he was first hired. I laughed at Giants fans who came to Cub.com and NSBB and warned Cub fans about what we were getting with Dusty.

Boy, did I learn the hard way. We have no idea what we are talking about?

Firsthand experience, my friend, firsthand experience.

Yeah Dusty took the Cubs farther into the playoffs then they've gone in the last 100 years....boy did you learn the hard way.

You guys are sad. If Dusty takes us to the NLCS (like he did with the Cubs) or World Series (like he did with the Giants), I'll be happy.

I really wish I could spell out all the insanely crazy things that Dusty did as manager. However, I have blocked most of those memories from my mind perminantly. Just know that when fans of the 2 fan bases he coached at consistantly set Dusty Baker as the lowest of the low (and we've had some horrible managers) and when he constantly has subtle jabs taken at his coaching 'philosophy' in the mainstream media as well as other media like Rotoworld, its pretty obvious hes a horrible manager.

I am not saying he can have success with the Reds. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Reds won this division this year (yet I think the Brewers and then Cubs are most likely to). But more likely than not, any success the Reds have during Dusty's tenure will be in spite of him rather than because of him.

First off, your math is pretty bad (2003-1945 = 58 years).

He also mortgaged the team's future for that one playoff run and crippled the Cubs going forward. Oh, and he's an awful manager.

But yeah, we're sad.

That's arguable. Obviously World Series > 5 outs from WS, but winning a playoff series hadn't happened since 1908 before 2003.

OH I'M SORRY.

He took the Cubs the deepest into the playoffs in 58 years, and won their first playoff series in 100 years.

My bad.

He didn't cause Alou, Lofton, Sosa, Karros to be old and Alex Gonzalez to be bad. Kerry Wood was doomed to get hurt. Prior? Hopefully he learned his lesson, lol.

Dusty is a terrible manager and if somebody thinks otherwise, well they are a moron. HIs veteran fetish, constant abuse of pitchers, and complete and utter disregard for OBP will show Reds fans us Cubs fans do know what we are talking about. We all said Giants fans were wrong when warning us, but they were extremely right. Keep up that optimism though.

Yeah....but

He did that in his first yr. The NEXT 3 will considerable disappoingting, including 04 in which DUSTY BAKER kept putting a square (Hawkins) in a circle (closer's role) and he blew a late something game lead and lost the wild card, to the Astros.

And going back to 2003: had Baker gone out to the mound after Alou's hissy fit, and told Prior to forget what just happen, and refocus, then the Cubs would have gone to the World Series.

You can bank on one thing....Bruce, Votto, Bailey, will get shots, but will also be on short leashes, or will start in the minors. Baker has NO USED for youngersters, even if they have talent.

You can try and spin the value of Baker, but when your pitchers begin to hit the DL with a vengence, then you will see what we are talking about.

Posted
I think the worst thing that could happen to the Reds this year is to be in mid-July about 4-5 games out of a playoff spot. Bruce is obviously untouchable, but the rest could go in desperate trades.
Posted
With the rotation the Cubs had in 2003 they were set for multiple playoff runs in the near future with a monkey at the helm. You wouldn't find many at the time who would disagree. Maybe not that year, but soon. It would've taken a little luck and a crappy division to do it as soon as they did it, which they got, but Dusty had nothing to do with that team accomplishing what it did.

My personal guess would be Votto, Stubbs, and an as yet unnamed pitching prospect in the lower minors.
