The hell is the point of replacing one corner outfielder who won't play with another corner outfielder who won't play? Give me a break man.

Nady has 356 career innings in CF. I had hoped you would have known that.

Heres the thing about Nady, he has a decent amount of playing time in CF, so someone like Jim Hendry would probably be comfortable platooning him with Pie. However, that time has showed that he is pretty godawful in CF.

Give us Antonelli and call it a deal.

Well, first, I think you mean "Antonetti". Second, he works for the Indians. Third... or maybe first, you're thinking of DePodesta.

I must be missing some kind of joke here, and if so, I look pretty dumb in posting this, but I'm thinking he means Matt Antonelli, Pads 3B prospect.

2b. I think he was drafted as a 3b, but they moved him to 2b pretty quickly.

Not to mention Fukudome has more experience in CF than Nady and is much more than "passable" there.

But that begs the question, would they trade us DePo for Murton?

We've all been thinking inside the box as Greene as the answer to the cubs problems, but really DePo would be the answer.

Murton for DePo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crap. I forget there's an Antonelli in baseball too. ](*,)

Regarding Greene, would you do Marshall, Cedeno, Patterson, & Murton for Greene + lower level average prospect?

Would Kevin "tampering" Towers do that deal?

Posted
I would jump at the opportunity to bring him back as an insurance policy for if Soto craps out. We don't want Blanco/Hill now do we.

I don't normally make "chemistry" type of arguments, but Barrett was quite a distraction during his final days as a Cub. With the majority of the veteran core remaining the same, I don't think Barrett would be a good fit. I wasn't in favor of trading him, but I think that ship has sailed.

1)Absofreakinlutely and 2)it would all depend on how he views Cedeno. If he thinks Cedeno can translate it into the majors, then possibly.

I'm confused about tampering. Is talking to the Orioles about Roberts tampering? Is speculating about the availability of Bedard tampering? :?

Talking to the press about a player not on your team is tampering, as would be talking directly to that player (without his parent club's approval)

If we're going to get (go for) Greene, why not offer Theriot first and try to keep Cedeno?

Heres why.

Kyle Blanks would be another nice guy to pick up with huge power potential and good results in high A ball (.920 OPS --24 HR's). I actually like their system somewhat and think there could be some interesting pieces coming back. However, I get the feeling that Hendry would probably rather trade Murton for mediocre MLB talent then good minor league talent.

Maybe I'm misguided, but isn't Greene being a bit overvalued in this thread and Murton undervalued?

4 players (including Murton) for Greene seems a bit much.

It would be trading from areas of depth to fill a tremendous hole. Murton will be a little used 4th outfielder, Cedeno would no longer be needed with Greene, Patterson is lost on the depth chart with Pie and Colvin, and Marshall would likely be battling Lieber, Gallagher and others for the last rotation spot.

Khalil Greene on the road in 2007: .288 .322 .519 .840

Khalil Greene on the road career: .280 .335 .515 .850

Remembering that Greene plays most of his games in the toughest hitter's park in baseball and the toughest hitting division in MLB and that the NL Central is arguably the best hitter's division in baseball, the numbers Green could put up playing for the Cubs in a very solid line up all the way through could REALLY pump his numbers up.

If you add Greene's bat (ignore the great defense he plays for a moment) to the Cubs line up, the Cubs have Soriano, Lee, Ramirez and Greene with the potential to have .500+ SLG and Fukudome, Pie, DeRosa and Soto all with the potential of mid to high .400 SLG.

Soriano, DeRosa, Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome, Greene, Pie, Soto

And wow, what a stellar defense the SP's would have behind them.

It's a lot to give up for Greene, but none of those guys are someone who turns me off such a deal.

I don't deny that Greene would be an upgrade at SS. In fact, I'd like to see him with the Cubs.

Just because these players don't project in the Cubs future in the immediate doesn't mean that you include them all in one deal. I don't mind parting with a couple of these guys. It just seems to me that 4 for Greene is excessive.

I started out with this thread thinking Murton + Cedeno + Marshall + Patterson for Greene was overpaying, but I'm coming around ... BigBadB is probably spot on here.

What is Greene's WARP over Theriot?
