Now that this Roberts talk seems to have died down, Hendry will probably shift his focus elsewhere to get a top of the order hitter who can hit left handed. Rafael Furcal, the one that got away, seems like a logical choice. He's in the final year of his contract, so you'd think the Dodgers might be willing to move him for the right price. He's also coming off a major down year that saw his SLG% dip to .355.

So, the question is; should we pursue Furcal? And if so, what would you think it would take to get him?

We should pursue Furcal. And as far as what the Dodgers would want in return would likely be the pieces necessary to help them finish up a trade that netted them Johan Santana or Erik Bedard.

I would bring rocks to the games to throw at Furcal if we traded for him.

The character issues, I assume?

Hurting DLee (although I blame Eyre just as much for his girly throw), spurning the Cubs as a FA a few years ago, failing to single handedly beat the Astros in the NLDS in 2005, which allowed them to go to the World Series and then play dead for the White Sox, and his numerous drunken driving arrests. He probably screwed up a fantasy team or two of mine also.

I'd rather see how much Boston would pay us to take Lugo off their hands.

Of course, if they'd prefer to trade us Lowrie, I'd do that, too. :D

What would it take to never have anyone raise his name again?

I don't see why the cubs don't solve this problem by offering Florida Pie,Gallagher,Veal and any other prospect for Hanley Ramirez. You may say florida has no motivation for moving him but i think 4 of our best prospects might get thier attention.

I think they'd demand Rich Hill as well as every other valuable player we have with little service time.

I just can't see it happening.

Not only do they have no motivation, there's just no reason to consider that.

They traded Cabrera and Willis for financial reasons, and got back multiple prospects. Maybe one day, when Hanley is making money, they'll move him. But it's going to be for a much better package than what you suggested.

Making an offer like that won't solve the Cubs problem at SS. The Marlins would laugh at our offer and hang up.

Also, Hanley Ramirez is generally rated as the worst defensive SS in the majors. He'll be a 3b within 2 years, and we already have one of those.

Why not just make him 3B now since Cabrera is gone? If he's not changing positions now, I don't think he's going to.

Lugo will rebound nicely next year, the Cubs would improve more by adding him than adding Roberts.

Talk has never been about him moving to 3b, its about him moving to CF, which very very likely could happen. If anyone's moving to 3b its Uggla.

Now that they have Maybin, wouldn't it be less likely that Ramirez would move to CF. They had nobody to play there prior to nabbing Maybin.

Oh and Ping, was Lugo battling injuries all of last year? What's his deal? And isn't he still due about 3/24m?

Posted

Lugo was healthy all year, I think he tried too hard to justify that contract, playing in Boston with 8 good hitters around him prob. put too much pressure on him. Plus, he had some bad luck there as well.

He played better in the second half, but not as good as he did while in TB.

He's due 27mil over the next 3 years with a vesting option in '11.

I still think Gonzo from the Reds fits nicely in this lineup if his defense is still as solid as it once was, or I would take a gamble on Lopez.
