Carr was not fired

Forced out..same thing.

It's tough to say he was forced out when the University has offered him an Associate AD position.

I think he saw that the game was passing him by.

No Game for Old Men.

Tell that to Bobby Bowden. No seriously, somebody please tell him.

so what's so different about these two scenarios:

Football team gains 500 yards on offense, score 7 points. They allow 100 yards, give up 10 points.

Baseball team gets 5 walks, 10 singles, 2 doubles and a triple, score 0 runs. They allow 1 hit no walks and one run.

They're analogous to each other.

A few points either way in a football game is a pretty random outcome. If a team wins by a field goal, then what's the difference? It's a 3 down conversion, or stopping one. It's very small and very random. Three touchdown loss? No. A loss within a touchdown? It's fairly random. What should we take away from the game? The same from each team. On that day they were pretty much equal. Who won has very little predicative power, if any. This isn't negotiable. It's a statistical fact that cannot be argued. Don't even think about trying.

So the team that wins is always the team that outplays the other? Florida lost today's game by a botched call (they had a TD called back on a penalty when they actually had enough men on the line thank you tivo and eventually a FG was blocked). Give them that TD and they win. Does that mean they outplayed Michigan? No...but they would have won.

If a team is outgaining the other team by a huge margin in yardage, but still loses, then they likely lost the game due to TOs, bad special teams play, terrible execution in the red zone. These are all factors in a football game that you cannot overlook.

The baseball and football situations are certainly not analogous, as run/hit differential will show you a truer representation of how the team should perform over the long haul rather than how the team played that particular game, whereas in football "you play to win the game.". It takes 2 losses to dash your national championship goals. What matters in the end is execution. Nothing else.

You just cited my exception as your example. As I said, the only time a team performs better and loses is due to missed calls by the officials. That's really the only thing they can't control.

Youre completely lost.

Question: what can you say about this senior class, and what it has meant to the program?

Meyer: Well, for those guys who just put in their time and didn't make any real contributions, it's time for you to go. It won't be hard to say goodbye to some of those guys who just went through the motions. Now for those kids who actually bought into the program, and who made some sacrifices and contributions -- you know, like Bubba Caldwell....he's a graduate of UF and had a great career -- you'll really miss those guys. But just because you're a senior doesn't mean you have any value.

Seriously, Urban rocks. Who can't love a coach like that?

You gotta love a coach who tries to blame any problems on a lack of player sacrifice.

what a dick.

yeah, players who didn't make big contributions were "going through the motions." maybe they just weren't as talented as percy harvin or tim tebow - so don't let the door hit you in the ass seniors!

That isn't what he said.

That's exactly what he said. It's exactly what every god complex next big thing coach who thinks he's got the system to beat all systems thinks. The only thing between him and a title is effort from the kids. In a way, you probably have to think that way. But it's pretty funny how insanely overhyped "buying into the system" has become with modern coach/gods.

It's pretty ridiculous. I think this is the first time I've ever heard a coach call out his seniors in that sort of manner.

I don't know how anyone can actually defend that statement.

Wow, did he really mean it that way? That sounds way harsh.

i normally don't like rooting for a guy like urban meyer, but if they keep playing michigan or ohio state in bowl games, then i'm gonna have to do it.

Why would you root against your teams conference doing well in bowl games?

i will never, ever root for michigan or ohio state, unless them winning would significantly benefit penn state.

Yeah, I can't imagine any situation where I would root for kansas.

that's not it at all. i don't hate everyone except the cubs - i hate the cardinals, astros and yankees. in hockey i hate the rangers and devils. pro football i hate the cowboys and giants.

ohio st and michigan are usually the best teams in the big ten, that's why i hate them and always root against them.

i usually hate them too, but i'm also tired of hearing the "big 10 can't beat the SEC" crap, so i rooted for Michigan and Wisconsin. that said, I can't root for O$U in the NC game
