Id be pissed if I were him. Hed gone the majority of his career as a sub, putting up mediocre at best stats. Finally, Texas gives him a shot at being a full time starter, and he proves he could do it and be an asset to his team, and it nets him a nice contract. Now, they're talking about sending him back to square one? A lot of lesser players would be demanding a trade. Still, I really dont see the Roberts trade happening, so it will be all moot.

if you are for bringing in kahlil greene then yes i'm talking to you. he is an error & strikeout king. we have enough guys that don't get on base without adding another one. this isn't slowpitch softball. how is it that obp is overrated & striking out is not relevant?

It's pretty much a non point anyway. I don't think the Padres would deal Greene. And I think it would take more than Pie to get a deal done.

An error king? You obviously have never watched this guy play SS.

what part of he bats right handed, doesn't get on base, strikes out too much, has a poor batting average & makes a lot of errors don't you understand?

Greene is a good player who is extremely hindered by playing in Petco. He'd also be replacing a player that isn't good.

As to your "points":

1. Theriot bats right handed. Moot point.

2. Again, neither does Theriot. Except here, Greene has a lot of power for a SS and his numbers would improve at Wrigley.

3. Strike outs? Lame.

4. Batting Average? Super lame.

5. First, defense isn't near as important as offense. Second, errors aren't a good way to judge defense at all. Third, Greene made 11 errors last year at SS, Theriot 8 (and 11 overall).

Plus, his number at Petco are pretty much even with Theriots total numbers. And Greene's numbers on the road destroy his numbers at home. I believe Meph showed a comparison that suggested he would be around .800-.820(low end) at Wrigley.

I'd be interested to know just what parks elevate his road numbers so much. Petco isn't the only poor hitter's park in the NL West.

OPS by ballpark in 2007

Chase Field - .833

Turner Field - .154

Wrigley Field - .744

Great American Ballpark - 1.648

Coors Field - .677

Dolphin Stadium - .557

Minute Maid Park - .619

Dodger Stadium - .724

Miller Park - 1.154

Shea Stadium - 1.411

Citizen's Bank Park - .643

PNC Park - .808

Petco Park - .670

AT&T Park - .916

Busch Stadium - .667

RFK Stadium - .643

I realized after the first half that career numbers would mean more than these extremely small sample sizes, but I am far too lazy to type those out too. So look here.

Holy god this is wrong.

He's an extreme flyball hitter playing in the NL West, where there's only one park that's not a terrible hitters park. He plays 81 games in a canyon called Petco. His range is so much greater than other SS, he's going to get to more balls in play, so his errors are going to be a little higher than other SS.

He'd be an amazing upgrade to our worst position on the field, offensively and defensively.

Speaking of Khalil Green,

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/home_MLB.aspx

The Washington Post's Barry Svrluga believes the Nationals offered Felipe Lopez and either Chad Cordero or Jon Rauch to the Padres for Khalil Greene and were turned down.

That wasn't going to do it. The Padres seem to generate a couple of new quality relievers every year, so they're not going to part with a key player for a setup man. The Nationals will keep looking for other ways to improve their middle infield. As things stand now, they're looking at Lopez at second, with Ronnie Belliard as the backup, and Cristian Guzman at short.

First, strikeouts aren't really important at all in evaluating a hitter. They're definitely not nearly as important as a lot of people would have you believe (including yourself, apparently).

Second, I'm not sure that anyone said that OBP is overrated (although it probably is a little bit these days, but it's still the most important "basic" offensive statistic).

Third, "this isn't slowpitch softball." Um, ok. What?

Fourth, without even getting into the argument about park factors and just how much PetCo brings down Greene's numbers, do you realize that even if Greene were everything you say he is, he'd still be a significant upgrade over what we have at SS (which is Ryan freaking Theriot)?

I already tried to argue with Meph on a Greene acquisition, he wins. While I still think we could get him without trading Pie and I think Pie is too much for Greene, Greene is, hands down, much better than he appears to be, and Meph has convinced me of such things.

Also, he doesn't make a lot of errors, that much is obvious, surprised you would bring that up. Greene is GG caliber at SS. He only made 11 errors at SS last year, he's one of the top defensive SS in the league

I'm expecting no direct acknowledgment whatsoever of our points and a short reply that implies that we all have no idea what we're talking about.

If we get Roberts, trade DeRosa. He's got to have quite a bit of value with his production the last two years at his contract. Who needs a 2B that has a SS we could use, or is shopping a SP?

San Diego needs a 2b. :D

I doubt Towers would trade with Hendry if Hendry wins the Fukudome derby.

If I were a GM, I'd probably rather just sign Tad Iguchi than trade anything of value for DeRosa.

this isn't slow pitch softball, bro

I'd love to get Greene at SS, and would happily trade Pie to get him. Have Fukudome play CF, keep Murton in RF (if we still have him), play Roberts at 2nd if he's acquired and play DeRosa at SS. Theriot should fit nowhere into this equation.
