The Cubs are having all sorts of trade discussions involving Mark Prior. The Rangers and Padres are said to be two interested parties.

Of course the Cubs still have Kosuke Fukudome in their sights. But they also have their eye on Oakland's Nick Swisher and Arizona's Orlando Hudson. Both are switch-hitters, by the way.

Im sorry if this was discussed in the previous Prior trade, but what sort of trade value does Prior have? I was under the impression he could be traded for something like 2 mid-level prospects or something like that. Now his name is being thrown around with Swisher?

Two separate transactions, obviously.

Although, if Beane liked a prospect or two on some team interested in Prior, that could help.

I think the two are mutually exclusive events.

The Cubs want to trade Prior.

The Cubs also want to aquire Swisher.

I think they are two separate trades. The Rangers and Padres have interest in Prior, I don't know about the A's.

I don't see Beane parting with Swisher.

It's probably the same m.o. behind Haren being shopped. If we offer something impressive, he'll deal him.

So...what would a fair deal for Swisher be? It seems we're shopping Prior.

So...how about like Prior/Gallagher/Colvin for Swisher?

Beane loves OBP, not something Colvin exactly excells at.

I'd do that in a second........it would be great to dump Colvin before people realize he isn't any good.

Colvin's best comp is Mark Kotsay, right?

If he becomes more patient, yes.

I bet he'd like a Murton type hitter.

Swisher is an interesting name, and he hits LHP, so that's nice. However, he recently signed a fairly team friendly contract through 2012. Can't see Beane giving him up for less than a lot.

Hudson does not intrigue me. A 30 year old with a career OPS+ of 97. I believe he's in his last arbitration year before free agency, which means Jim might be interested in an extension of some sort. And, of course, he's another 2B. His numbers might look good for a MI, but 2b is a position where more and more guys can hit, and Hudson is more or less just another guy there. Plus, his career numbers in 2007 were basically the result of some extra power at home, specifically 9 triples at home (compared to 0 on the road) and 7 home HR compared to 3 away HR.

The HR's make sense. Playing a ton of games in SD, LA, SF and spacious Colorado knocks a lot of guys HR power down quite a bit.

I've never heard somebody claim Colorado knocks down HR power.

I believe that to be the case, though. Colorado plays as a hitter's park more for the spacious outfields, rather than HR's. At least since Colorado adopted the storing of baseballs in a humidor.
