for some reason I always thought there was a select in there.

My buddy argued with me about this big time...and lost. You only use select if you were playing 2 player. Then it's up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start.

The select was just to move the cursor from 1 to 2 players.

Correct. I use it to determine how social of a childhood people have. If you omit the select, then you were a sad, lonely child.

O's, Cubs put Roberts deal on hold

Talks have cooled as teams can't agree on package; standstill may push potential trade to Opening Day or later

By Jeff Zrebiec | Sun reporter

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Orioles and Chicago Cubs have not had any recent talks about All-Star second baseman Brian Roberts, pushing the potential deal toward Opening Day or beyond.

Despite engaging in trade talks for more than three months, the two teams still have not agreed to a package that both find suitable. According to two baseball sources, the Cubs have offered infielder Ronny Cedeno, pitching prospects Sean Gallagher and Donald Veal, and one other player for Roberts, but the Orioles are holding out for a better offer.

The talks are at a standstill while scouts from both teams evaluate the players on each other's roster. The Cubs, who are looking for a leadoff hitter to set up the middle of their lineup, have had at least one scout at every game Roberts has played this spring. Dave Engle, one of the Orioles' top scouts, went to Mesa, Ariz., to observe several of the Cubs' prospects.

Hilarious. All this is doing is pissing off Derosa.

it takes two to trade, so you need "select" before start

If the Orioles are holding out for a better offer than Gallagher, Cedeno, Veal, and another player, then Jim should just walk away.

I'm concerned that the above offer is too much. No way I'd give more.

That made me laugh.

That's the only thing I can think of as to why this trade is being held up. I am believing that Baltimore is hoping (for the lack of a better word) for an injury, and that a team will need a 2b (PERHAPS, White Sox), and that they can finally get a bidding war for Roberts.

I simply wish Hendry would get off this Roberts for leadoff gibberish, and go with the team as is. Wasting 3 months for a player like Roberts is not worth it. And if Roberts REALLY wanted out of Balitmore, he would go publicly about wanting to be traded.

That's not true. I think it's pretty obvious by his statements about the whole thing that he'd prefer to be traded, he's just not the type of guy that's going to come out and say "trade me". He said when the offseason started that he didn't want to be the "last man standing" in a rebuilding project.

He is also a fan favorite who has done a lot of work with the city. He is not going to come out and ask for a trade. The bottom line is Baltimore is holding all the cards, and can wait as long as they want.

That's not really true either. You can't get as much for 1 year of Roberts as 2, so they can't wait "as long as they want." I think O's fans said the same thing about trading Tejada and they ended up getting less.

There isn't going to be any bidding war no matter how long they wait. If you look at what comparable players have been traded for, the Orioles are not likely to get what they want in any case.

I'm almost glad at times like this we don't have better prospects to piss away on bad trades.

It wouldn't be much of a bidding war if they're counting on the White Sox prospects.

My sources tell me that Derrek Lee is going to start at First Base.

Yeah, I'm hearing the same thing from my people. Plus there's the beat writer who was quoted as saying, "it just makes too much sense not to happen."
