The day the Brian Roberts trade happens, I'm locking this thread forever. It can't be allowed to live beyond the "rumor" stage.

What if the rumors die down in Spring Training, but then heat up again at the trade deadline?

Then we'll keep it going and shoot for 500 pages.

It will be our responsibility (much like the Knight in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) to protect this thread and keep it alive so long as we live - and Brian Roberts is not yet a cub. I envision the year 2078 when our children's children are on NSBB talking about baseball on played on the moon (The Lunar Lions? The Sea of Tranquility Stars?) that even though Brian Roberts is not yet a Cub, some day he will come again and be traded to the Cubs or signed by Jim Hendry, IV.

So yer saying this thread will continue unless Elsa crosses the seal?

This is turning in to a pretty good offseason. Hendry has been saved from the following

Trading Murton for Byrd-they wanted more

Shipping off the farm for Roberts- Angelos love child must never leave

Signing an array of crappy relievers- Dusty is taking care of that

Signing the great Kazou- Houston wanted to finish below pitt and save the cubs from year 101!

All in all not bad, with the signing of fuku and the resigning of wood we look pretty good. I would of liked more but look at the list of what could of happened and i'm pretty pleased. A nice addition at the deadline and we are set.

I'm not so sure he's been saved from that. From what I can tell, he's been pretty steadfast in not giving up more than he thinks it's worth to get Roberts, despite his obvious strong desire to acquire him. There's a reason there hasn't been a deal made yet.

Now, whether he ultimately caves in or not, that'd be a different story.

That part is complete b.s. I am all for criticizing Hendry, but at least be intellectually honest when you do it.

OMG ACTUAL (SEMI) NEWS!

MESA, Ariz. - The longest running rumor of the off-season isn't quite dead yet.

But team sources said Wednesday there has been no movement recently in the quest to obtain Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts.

General manager Jim Hendry declined to discuss specific players, but admitted Wednesday he's a little frustrated he wasn't able to get a deal done before the start of spring training.

"Just because when you write things up on paper, you have visions of how you would like it to be by Opening Day," he said. "But it doesn't always work out that way."

That was sooo last page. You probably would have noticed it without all this fluff...

You are NSBB's best fluffer...

Buster Olney was on Sportscenter the other day and when asked what deal might have the biggest impact, he said Fuku. Then he went on to say that if they did get Roberts it would really help to further balance the RH lineup.

We've gone from Rick-Rolled to Fluffers. I think a discussion of gay 80s pop bands is the only thing missing from this thread. So I will say that while they didn't have huge commercial success in the U.S., Erasure was pretty good. Now we have it all....?

Erasure was pretty good.

I try to discover

A little something to make me sweeter

Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart

I'm so in love with you

I'll be forever blue

That you give me no reason

Why you're making me work so hard

That you give me no

That you give me no

That you give me no

That you give me no

Soul, I hear you calling

Oh baby please give a little respect to me

I love that song!

For those who need their fix:

Belkast:

As much as I like Roberts, I don't see him being here on Opening Day. I think it is absolutely necessary to trade him and continue to rebuild this team. My understanding is the talks are way more serious then the media is picking up on. My prediction- The Cubs will get him soon.

When asked if he thinks PA will sign off on it:

I sure do!!!

Enjoy 8-)
