Take this for what it's worth, folks - but I have word from a Cub player that a blockbuster is about to go down, or is in the works. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with this thread.

Have you been talking to Ryan or Mike? Cause the Bayou Basher isn't a Cub any longer.

Huh? Who isn't a Cub?

Todd Walker.

I see. That's what was strange about it. When I searched for Bayou Basher, the first thing that popped up was an article or two about Mike Fontenot, and the second reference to Bayou Basher was an article or two about Ryan Theriot. Nowhere on the first two pages of results is a reference to Todd Walker as the Bayou Basher. Since the term seemed to reference two current Cubs, it didn't make sense that he said the Basher was not a Cub anymore without some type of knowledge.

Bayou Basher is what Chip called Walker during the infamous broadcasters vs. players war of 2004. Walker apparently complained that Chip and Stone didn't give players nicknames like the Hawk so Chip and Stone came up with one inane nickname after another for an entire broadcast. It was an inside joke.

I think they also called Walker "The Louisiana Lumberjack" at one point.

Just for fun...

One of the posters at OH is proposing a Bedard and Roberts for Pie, Colvin, Vitters, Marmol, Gallagher, and Veal trade...

The thread may re-apply for a passing grade upon actual completion of any kind of new trade with the Orioles.

I would say that any thread that has grown to 118 pages would have to be considered a success in itself. Not many theads grow this large. So, from a production standpoint, this thread is a potential Hall of Famer. Maybe we can get Meph to run some numbers for us to see it this is truly the case.

If this did somehow turn about to be a blockbuster with us nettng Bedard/Roberts Hendry more than likely have to take another contract back from the O's some reports have had it being Jay Payton . Hendry should Target Huff instead and move Fuku to center . Huff/Bradford/Millar are all better options for the Cubs than Jay Payton.

So which number did Roberts select to be on his Cubs jersey?

He's going to select the final number of pages in this thread as his jersey number. I estimate he'll be wearing No. 200 by the time all is said and done.

They also called him "the Louisiana Larruper."

If the Cubs were willing to let Fukudome play center, they wouldn't need another corner outfielder. They'd just use Murton. The fact that they are chasing a backup CF suggests they are not comfortable moving Fukudome, which is why they possibly would want Payton over Huff.

The reason that Fukudome chose us over the White Sox, who offered more money, is because he'd get to play right field. I don't think he's interested in sliding to center.

Murton could be on his way to Baltimore and Hendry's first plan of attack probably wasn't Fukodome for Cf but I don't think he thought he had a shot at getting Bedard either.

I can't see this deal being done. I think one thing the Cubs learned last year was they didn't want 3 lefties in the rotation, so giving up a ton for Bedard doesn't make sense. Also, I have a hunch that Bedard is going to be a big bust next year for whoever gets him.

Vance - Todd Walker is in no way related to this rumor, BTW (trying to push 120 pages).

So you're saying you just made up that little bit to try to get this thread to 120 pg's?

(i'm not saying that like i'm mad or anything, i'm just confused)

Actually, I read somewhere that someone heard on some radio station that he was interested in returning to the Cubs. I'm not joking, but it probably has 0% truth and it goes right along with this thread anyway. :)

I'm pretty sure he actually meant Abe's rumor that is presumably about Roberts, not the stuff about Walker.

will Roberts have "Brian" or "Roberts" on the back of his jersey?

i want the back of his jersey to read "rumor"

That'll be his nickname for sure.
