They were talking about Bedard on Orioles hangout and one of the insiders chimed in saying that he's still hearing Roberts to Cubs soon...asked if it would be today he said:
More like this week. Peace and Belkast are checking with their contacts. I was told it was Gallagher, Murton and Patterson but who knows???

In the unlikely event that we're able to pull off that deal for that package, I will voluntarily go on a one month Jim Hendry criticism embargo.

That's not a light package. Murton is the Cubs 3rd best OF at this point and best RH bat not being paid at least 12M for this season. Gallagher may be the Cubs 5th best starter. Patterson, admittedly, doesn't have much value unless he can handle 2B adequately. Not saying that it's too much, but it's far from robbery.

Roberts for two seasons at a very friendly price, then let him walk for two high draft choices. An excellent deal. I like Sean Gallagher, but a good farm system should be able to pop out a Gallagher every couple of seasons.

Roberts seems like the type to accept arbitration, being that he won't get much of a raise if he hits the market, so I don't know that you can count on those picks, even if he is a type A.

And yeah, I'd do the deal, but it's a far cry from the Aramis trade. Thankfully it's a far cry from the Pierre trade too.

Unless Roberts is horrible as a Cub over the next two seasons, there's essentially zero chance he would accept an offer of arbitration.

Yeah, I can't see him accepting arbi. It doesn't happen that often. It would have to be a Mike Cameron/Michael Barrett situation where suspensions, injuries, or just plain suckitude is involved. He'll have made about $25M by the time he hits the FA market. And unless the above occurs, I can't see him having to accept a multi-year deal that do any less than double his lifetime earnings.

Even Cameron declined.

From one of the Orioles insiders at orioleshangout.com:

Bedard to the Reds has heated up but the M's are very active as well, either way my guy gives the strong impression Bedard will be going by the end of the week to one of M's or Reds. Roberts to the Cubs is as close as being a done deal without actually saying " done deal".

Yep just a couple minutes earlier he said:

Just spoke with my guy, this is very true. Bedard and Roberts "should" be gone by the end of the week. Roberts to Cubs.

Asked if we're giving in on Pie:

No not unless AM pulls a rabbit out of his hat at the last minute.

And when asked Would the Cueto/Votto and prospects from the Reds for Bedard and Gallegher, Murton, and EPatt for BRob from the Cubs be accurate?:

I'm not saying...I'm just saying....

Sounds like Gally, Murt, Patterson. BTW, this is the insider that broke the Tejada deal a few hours early IIRC.

If we get Roberts, this really solidifies the offense...Even if Pie is going to bat .260, we can deal with it and just stick him in the 8 hole and use him for his glove..Hendry just needs one more legit starter, because our 4 and 5 situtation scares me, then call it an offseason..

Anyone have any idea of the last 2b we had that performed adequately that people were happy with? Johnny Evers?

What thread did you find these quotes in? That board has good info but, it is a mess.

If the Cubs acquire Brian Roberts, Felix Pie hits .260, and the Cubs don't suffer any major injuries to their everyday players, I'll predict the unthinkable - we will eclipse 800 runs scored.

Felix Pie at .260 will be a valuable player.

Agreed..The rest of the lineup will be really well set up where it won't hurt us and he can get his time in the majors and get well ajusted..Even if he was batting lower like .240 I guess I could take it just since the rest of the lineup looks sweet and it'll give him time to improve and plus he has great D to balance it out...Outfield looks set for the next 4 years..We'd have some really athletic, speedy OF'ers with cannon arms...Prediction: Cubs will lead majors in outfield assists

Murton, Gallagher & Patterson for Brian Roberts? Seriously? For what? A small upgrade at 2B? He's a switch hitter, better glove, more speed on the bases, but with very similar offensive production when compared with DeRosa.

DeRosa + Murton at 4th OF + Gallagher in the mix for 5th starter + Patterson in a utility role + $10 mil. over the next two years >>>>

Roberts + DeRosa as the super sub.

If Roberts has this kind of trade value, we should be shopping DeRosa for a shortstop.

Eh, I don't really consider it a high price. Gallagher is the centerpiece and will hurt, but he probably isn't in our plans next year. Murton will probably break out in Baltimore but who cares, it's obvious he has no future here with both corner wrapped up for a minimum of 4 years. E-Patt will likely top out as a utility guy, so no huge loss.

I just hope that on the first day of spring training DeRosa lines up at SS like he has something to prove. If that happens, we're golden.

This clearly a personal attack against me.

I'd actually be okay with this deal. I'd rather see Marshall in the trade rather than Gallagher, but I like what Roberts brings to the team. No, not PED's. :D

I'm with you. While I'd hate to lose Gallagher, I don't think he's so can't-miss that we shouldn't trade him. Murton and Patterson aren't worth crying over.

Roberts doesn't fill a specific need, but he gives the Cubs another good player. And they don't have enough of those. DeRosa will get his starts, and it'd be nice to have some depth in case of injury. For example, if Ramirez were to pull something and miss a few weeks, DeRosa can just slide over to replace him. Otherwise, DeRosa slides to third and Fontenot slides into the lineup. I'm not real excited about that possibility.

The latest from orioles hangout is that AM is okay with what the cubs are offering, but the deal is waiting for Angelos to sign off. They say Angelos is holding up the deal and they aren't sure he will sign it. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he doesn't aprove the deal because he has done it before. He has a serious man crush for Roberts.

A man of his wealth and wisdom should be familiar with the benefits of moving on to the younger body.

If Angelos is in fact blocking this deal then i believe is pointless for AM to be there. The orioles simply aren't going anywhere if Angelos continues acting like this. That team needs to be completely rebuild. I personally feel that the rumor package of Murton Patterson and Gallagher is more than enough for Roberts. They would e getting a guy who projects as a solid # 3 starter a good ops corner outfielder in Murton and a speedy 2nb baseman and outfielder. For a team that is rebuilding that is a very good package. Their outfield could potencially be : Murton, Markakis and Scott. If Angelo's man crush for Roberts doesn't allow him to understand that this trade would help his team, that franchise will continue to suck for a long time.
