The Reds, Padres, Phillies and Rangers are all reportedly in the running to acquire Mark Prior from the Cubs.

The word last night was that the Padres' conversations with the Cubs had turned sour, making a move to San Diego less likely. It's unclear whether the Cubs and Prior have had any contract discussions lately.

I just went to the top thread, figured everyone was reading it,so just thought Id share with everyone

I don't see how Roberts is worth losing Hill. 2B is not a hard position to fill. Roberts wouldn't come close to being more helpful than Hill and DeRosa if those two were just left in their 2007 roles.

I wouldn't be shocked if the price was Gallagher, Marshall, and Patterson if we refuse to include Pie or Hill.

Bit steep, but I'd probably pay it.

I wouldn't do that deal. That's too much.

Maybe something like Marshall, EPatt, and Petrick/Hart?

I'd certainly try to swap one of them for a pitching prospect, but it'd be hard to say no if you're only slightly overpaying.

It's hard to say yes when one of those guys is likely to be slated as the Cubs 5th starter next year.

I'm not sure the Cubs can afford to have 2 arms in a deal for an infielder. There are rumors of the Cubs also moving Prior, Dempster and possibly Marquis. They can't trade a chunk of their pitching staff without getting some arms back.

Start Marmol.

If we're giving up Marmol and our other top prospects, I'd rather make a run for Bedard or even Tejada. DeRosa's numbers are almost identical to BROberts not factoring the SB's of course, so why give prospects for a guy that we have doing a good job at 2B?

I'd rather find out in spring (or pick now and let the "winner" know) which of DeRosa or Roberts can play short most days. We'd have Cedeno for at least defensive subs and Theriot to spell.

I'd try to get them to bite on a Marmol/Epatt package.

Even though now is probably the best time to deal him, it would take a heck of a lot for me to part with Marmol.

Maybe I value shut-down relievers too highly, but guys like Marmol don't come along every day.

Agreed. Unless Roberts or DeRosa would slot over at SS, I don't see that great of a match. Let's just grab all three of those guys:

Bedard, Tejada and Roberts for

Marquis, DeRosa, Marshall, Marmol, EPatt, Jake Fox, Ronny Cedeno and Matt Murton.

when i wonder what Hendry would give up for Roberts, it kind of reminds of what the Cubs gave for Juan Pierre. Mitre, Nolaso and Pinto... really makes me wonder what he'd give for Roberts...

Something happen already!!!

No.

Jim Hendry will not make any big trades. Instead, he will acquire a Japanese reliever few people have ever heard of, make a trade for Alex Cora (in which he ships out a promising prospect that later becomes a 5 time All Star in the AL), and publicly bemoan the fact that a number of trades he wanted to do simply couldn't get done despite the fact that MLB had one of the wildest offseasons in recent memory, with nearly every team making big trades.

As long as he sticks to his guns about not trading Hill or Pie, he really can't do much damage. I think Marmol would have to be part of the deal, and I'd be ok with that.

Damn you for bringing me back to reality!
