In some ways a lot like the Bears/Cards last year... (loose comparison)
They are who we THOUGHT they are! And we let them off the hook!

if it were possible to put money on a PI/holding call on a given play, i would have put a lot on ne's 4th down play. most predictable call ever.

Have to agree on this one. I was not in any way even surprised that the refs decided Baltimore "committed" a penalty on that final fourth down.

I've been saying for a while the Pats were beatable and I definitely think the Steelers are the best bet to do it. If they play well next week (which they better), they are tenfold better than the Ravens and Eagles and might be as good as the Colts. Plus, they play exactly the style of play you need to beat the Pats. Run the ball, control the clock, beat up their linebackers. Keep Brady off the field and the Steelers are experts at that.

The Pats will lose in the regular season. I have no doubt.

I don't think they're going to lose in the regular season. I'd like to think the Steelers can beat them, but I'm certain that Belichick is going to have a great gameplan and that they will probably play one of their best games of the year.

I do think they'll lose in the playoffs, though.

They're simply not that much better than the Steelers. They're a great team, but they should have lost to a 4 win Baltimore team with a horrifically bad offense. It's going to take a great game from the Steelers obviously, but they are built perfectly to beat the Pats.

The game could go either way, I just think the Pats will have trouble winning their third straight difficult game in a row, against the best team of the trio.

What I wonder is how the Patriot offense - built 100% on speed - will handle the horrible conditions this winter. Everybody made a big deal about the Colts struggling to win in the snow because they were built on speed (and rightly so), but I hear none of the same questions asked about the Pats now that they're basically the Colts from a few years ago.

I still think the Ravens got royally screwed tonight.

They had the game won until Billick went and called the timeout right before the Ravens stopped the Patriots on 4th and 1. I really want to feel sorry for the Ravens, I just can't.

EDIT: I guess it was actually Rex Ryan, not Billick, who called the timeout.

The timeout did turn out to be a bad idea, but Billick made a good point in the press conference that he'd be roasted had he not called a timeout even though the Ravens had the wrong personnel for what they thought the Pats were going to run. They got lucky on the stop, but the timeout (which was probably the smart thing to do) canceled out that luck.

It still doesn't excuse the horrific "holding" penalty the refs handed to the Pats.

Saw a replay on SportsCenter where they showed a view from behind the Pats line of the play and the Pats WR did appear to be held after the 5-yard limit.

Some interesting quotes from mainly the Ravens and some from the Patriots after the game here.

possibly, but that type of "holding" occurs on just about every play.

I understand where you're coming from here. However, the guy was making contact past 5 yards and Watson was visibly held going into the endzone. Maybe they don't call it every time, but if you are going to make obvious contact with a guy going into the endzone and he's thrown the ball, you run a pretty good chance of picking up a holding call. I'll grant that it was a little ticky tack, but not deserving of all the hair pulling and teeth gnashing that I'm seeing.

It was holding. Just wish they would've called it in the 2004 AFC Championship game one of the hundreds of times it happened.

lets see, a false start, then a holding call, but no pass interference on the last hail mary throw?

nice officating. way to be consistant.

Ravens got screwed.

um, if anything it would have been offsetting interference calls on the final hail mary, as one of the Ravens WR's totally powerslammed one of the Patriots safeties

yeah replay the down so kyle boller can throw another super-low percentage pass and not reach the end zone with it.

thats what burned me, the Patriots were allowd a second chance because of their f-up, but the Ravens aren't given the same oppertunity.

I dont know, I guess it never should have came down to it, and I feel the holding call was ticky-tack.

i'm kind of rooting for New England to go undefeated now, if only because maybe Larry Czsxqnka might take a toaster into the tub with him
