Haha."IIRC" = wikipedia.

Lol, right. Because only a select few historians have studied the arcane subject that is Jesse James. There's just no way a simple man like myself could know such an obscure fact. Because there aren't dozens of movies about him, hundreds of books, an episode of the effing Brady Bunch, countless short stories about him, etc.

You do realize that posting a picture of jesse james and saying "eat lead jayhawkers" is part of a joke in a gag thread which YOU started. Where is your derision for those that posted the gag shirts showing the sacking of lawrence where 200+ people were murdered or your where are your sardonic comments directed at the poster of the John Brown shirt, a man who literally chopped innocent people up with swords in front of their families?

Actually, I already posted a link to that shirt in a different thread and made fun of it. And I like John Brown's crazy ass, so I won't begrudge a person sporting a shirt with his likeness.

This is supposed to be a funny thread, but instead you turn into an accusation that i support slavery.

I never made any reference to you in the post where I identified Jesse James. You smugly asked if any of us knew who he was, and I answered. For some reason you internalized it.

The previous post where I DID say that was a joke. Relax.

I guess all those actors that played Jesse James and the writers that wrote about him were lovers of slavery as well.

So you actually LIKE a person who murdered innocents yet you are giving me grief about Jesse James? I don't even like Jesse James or his stories and exploits because they are all bullcrap. He wasn't a "hero" of the people. He was a murderer. He was an invention of reconstruction era presspeople.

I asked because I didn't think you knew. I figured you thought it was just some random confederate soldier, because I guessed if you had known it was Jesse James, you wouldn't have said such a thing and would have gotten that it was a joke.

How in the world could you have interpreted anything he said as personal at all? I seriously don't understand how your brain works.

It's Jesse James.

Right now I'm rooting for Missouri since Kansas is a black hole.

i prefer a black hole to a s***hole

haha, good one.

Hmmmm

Big surprise, OMC is rooting for the slave state.

If a poster had made a joke where they showed a bottle of Beck's beer, I wouldn't blame them for taking it personal if someone commented:

Big surprise, you are rooting for Jew killers.

LOL 101st schedule!!

man i swear when they lose this game AND get a BCS berth they will be the most unqualified BCS team in the long sad history of unqualified qualified notre dame and others BCS teams.

There will plenty of time for us to discuss Mizzou vs OU Version 2.0 come next week

I'd definitely say Pittsburgh 2004 was more unqualified. Maybe slightly better wins for that Pittsburgh team (although they didn't have any great wins) but Pittsburgh was also 8-3 and had to go to OT to beat Furman that year. Including the Utah bowl game, Pitt played the 66th hardest schedule in the nation and still had 4 losses!

Plus a couple statistics that I know you value, they won 4 of their games by only a field goal and a 5th game by only 5. Plus, their Sagarin far right rating was 75th after the bowl game. 75th in the predictor and still in the BCS!

Florida State in 2005 was also more unqualified than this year's Kansas though they weren't as bad as 04 Pittsburgh.

So nice of you to say that. The ad hominem attacks continue on this board without challenge.

you might draw less fire if you used words like "personal" rather than "ad hominem."

Yah, OMC! Stop assuming that we are intelligent and treating us accordingly!!! You jerk.

Edit: Oh, and....Go Mizzou because I once had to drive through Kansas and it was the worst experience of my life.

OMC asked the entire board if they know a picture of Jesse James when they see it (some probably did, some probably didn't - not the point). In a separate thread, he posted a bunch of information about Babe Ruth and asked (in a similarly condescending tone) if anyone knew who he was talking about. Then, if anyone knows anything about these people he mentions, he says they got their information from Wikipedia (with all associated implication intended). The tone of his messages suggests that people aren't smart enough to know these things (or, omg!, use Google to find historical information!). Add in his use of ad hominem (which, for some reason, he's done about a dozen times in the last week) rather than saying personal attacks also makes him come across...poorly (don't want to venture into ad hominem attacks).

I generally like OMC, I just think he could diffuse some of these situations by changing his tone a bit, rather than egging people on (asking Dobson to keep it up, acting as if the mods aren't stopping others from being mean to him, etc)

As for the topic - I don't really care, but I just can't bring myself to root for a team from Misery, so go KU, I guess.

I ain't never been to Kansas so I have to root for the Tigers of Missouri. Wait, Frankie Baum of the Wizard of Oz was born in Chittenango where I went to school so now I don't know what to do again!

Jesse James, noted slave owner and pro-slavery sympathizer. Also, like most Missourians, a man who enjoyed a bit of incest, IIRC.

Now that is some good smack talk. Or is it trash talk?

There was nothing condescending in my tone about asking if people recognized who Babe Ruth was via his negative actions. It may have come off that way, but wasn't my intent. I was trying to make a point there to see if his bad deeds are as instanty recognizable as someone like Cobb's. I was genuinely curious whether people knew about those things.

Too much legal and litigation reading lately, sorry about that.

Unlike my usual adversaries who just love to egg me on? They know I have a short fuse.

Raise your hand if you thought this would be the most important college football game of the season, 3 months ago at this time?

It isn't. The winner (Mizzou) is losing to OU. It's really just a game to decide who plays in the Holiday Bowl (we both know the Cotton bowl is taking Texas and OU is getting the only BCS berth if they beat a 1 loss Mizzou)

How does the Big 12 not get a second BCS team? Do you really think bowls will pick 2 of 3 of: The ACC runnerup, Illinois, or Hawaii/Boise State over a 1 loss Kansas or a 2 loss Mizzou? That even assumes that Illinois and the ACC runnerup will be eligible, which is not even close to being assured yet.

Its gonna get closer and closer with every week. With all of the combinations of teams losing, Illinois has a very decent shot of ending up in a BCS game. (Before anyone says anything about whether or not they are deserving, I don't care, I'm just saying they have a pretty good shot of sneeking into that last slot in the BCS.)

The loser of this weekend's game is guaranteed to still be in the top 12 of the BCS at the end of the year, so the Big 12 will undoubtedly have 2 BCS teams.

Actually, a Missouri-Illinois rematch in, like, the Fiesta Bowl or Sugar Bowl would be pretty funny.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if the things others say don't deserve to be dignified with a response, then simply don't dignify them with a response. It's the response that many are looking for, most likely. There's no need to defend any kind of internet "honor", even if someone is in the complete wrong. Even a response of "Please keep this up" is basically asking for an internet fight, as cool as those can be.

You appear to be very strongly opinionated on the South and Ty Cobb, which are in particular, two polarizing subjects throughout the country, let alone on this board. If you have a point to make about things then simply make it. If it doesn't change the naysayers' minds, then nothing will anyway, so there's no point to further discussion/bickering.

Yes, my team is traditionally bad at football, therefore I know nothing about football.

By that logic, nobody on this site knows anything about baseball.

Also, that was the year that Miami, BC and Prison Tech left the BE so we had only 6 teams.
