Even if it isn't done. The writing has been on the wall for awhile now. Should have seen it coming.

Tampa is famous for asking for the world. Tampa is famous for not caving in on their demands. If the Cubs want Crawford, I'm worried about what the Cubs will give up to get him.

Considering how friendly Hendry is with his players (see Maddux for Izturis, 3 prospects for Pierre, 3 prospects for Tracshel and Jacque Jones for Omar Infante to name just a few), we need to stay very worried about this.

What happened to the love affair they were having this offseason about making a big splash in the Japan market? After getting scared by that trade proposal, I'm sold on Fukudome.

1. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays need young pitching.

2. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays need a young shortstop.

3. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have excess outfielders and want to get rid of an expensive one.

4. The Chicago Cubs announce decision to move their closer into the rotation, effectively giving them 7 guys for 5 rotation spots.

5. The Chicago Cubs announce they're looking for a corner outfielder and are expanding their payroll to accommodate it.

6. The Chicago Cubs trade an outfielder.

7. The Chicago Cubs trade another outfielder

8. The Chicago Cubs trades for a young shortstop, effectively making a young SS with trade value expendable.

I can't see Hendry trading Marmol this offseason. Lou was infatuated with using him last year, Hendry makes relief pitching a priority and he just announced that he would move Dempster back to the rotation.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gave up Hill and I wouldn't be surprised if he gave up too much. I just think he'll make Marmol almost untouchable.

Which rank among the stupidest things Hendry has done as a GM here, and that's saying something. A relief pitcher should never be untouchable.

See, I think this way with Hill. Hendry has to realize that he has a number of in-house options for the bullpen who can come in and perform effectively. If he brings back Kerry Wood, all the better.

Hill, on the other hand, gave the Cubs 195 innings of sub-4 ERA ball with a ton of strikeouts. That simply cannot be overlooked. He cannot be replaced nearly as easily. If Dempster replaces Hill, Hendry better realize that he will have to make up for this move with a big addition to the offense or rotation. Crawford is good, but not that good.

A Marshall/Marmol/Cedeno package would be fair, imo.

Hill and parts for Crawford. Sign Fukudome, move Pie and parts for Bedard. At that point I could careless if Theriot stays at SS.

Crawford

Soto

Lee

Aram

Soriano

Fukudome

Derosa

Theriot

Zambrano

Bedard

Lilly

Marquis

Prior/Hart/whoever

We should score enough runs to cover #4 and #5 starters.

I wonder if Hendry could pull off this trade without dealing Hill and Marmol. Maybe a package of Marshall, Veal or Gallagher, Patterson, and Cedeno could work? Then, sign Fukudome and call it a day.

Put Crawford in left, Pie in center, Fukudome in right... move Soriano back to second and shift DeRosa over to shortstop. Yeah, everybody's playing out of position, but think of the lineup.

1. Alfonso Soriano (2B)

2. Carl Crawford (LF)

3. Derrek Lee (1B)

4. Aramis Ramirez (3B)

5. Kosuke Fukudome (RF)

6. Mark DeRosa (SS)

7. Geovany Soto ©

8. Felix Pie (CF)

Ouch. I like Crawford and think he could be a star (not a superstar, but a star) for the next 5 years. But Hill + Marmol? One or the other is fine. Both is a bit outrageous.

I would rather have Hill than Crawford.

I think I would too. I fear what the rotation would look like if we trade Hill. I'm not opposed to moving him if there's a plan to bring in a decent arm in another fashion, but Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster, Marquis, Marshall just is one blah rotation.

Just browsing through message boards and seen this....

Apparently, Tampa Bay radio stations are reporting the deal is close and that the Cubs would get Crawford for Hill, Cedeno, and Marmol.

If this ends up being the deal, I'm driving my car to Chicago and kicking someone's ass.

I have a feeling this is just one of many threads we will see this off-season that have little or no truth in them.

But hey, there isn't much else to talk about.

I hope you're right given the current trade rumor.

It'll take Hill plus parts to get it done, assuming the Rays are serious and not jive turkeys. Marmol's trade value is a pretty sizeable step down from Hill's or Crawford's but it's still big enough that I wouldn't give up both Marmol and Hill for Crawford.

I don't like giving them both up, unless Marmol is having his shoulder held together with duct tape and we simply don't know it. I really really like Marmol so giving him up is difficult no matter what.

Although Friedman hasn't really been too active trading, thats a Chuck LaMar thing. Hes the Director of Scouting for the Phils now.
