I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope OSU destroys Michigan. It's time for Lloyd to go.

Who replaces him? Les Miles?

I could see Hawaii losing to an inferior Nevada team since they tend to struggle off the islands the past few years - especially at higher elevations such as Reno.

How many times can they win by 7?

A win over Western Michigan in Iowa City is all Iowa needs to virtually assure itself of a bowl game. I've been down on Ferentz at times, but he's done a fantastic job this season. Iowa's going to be really good next year.

I'd think bigger and go after a certain ex Steeler coach.

Anyone have any thoughts on some of the coaching candidates who might be available this offseason?

Just about everyone on Notre Dame's staff save Corwin Brown and possibly Bill Lewis (secondary coach) could possibly become available.

If Tennessee loses out, Phil Fulmer may be looking for another job. And if Fulmer is, David Cutcliffe would also become available as well as John Chavis.

I doubt we lose out, though.

Wow....imagine Michigan, Tennessee, Nebraska and UCLA all looking for coaches. The coaching carousel could be crazy.

More than that. Possible openings:

Michigan

Tennessee

Nebraska

Texas A&M

Arkansas

UCLA

Pitt?

Arizona?

ESPN has an article on Notre Dame, Charlie Weiss, and how firing Willingham and keeping Weiss reeks of hypocrisy.

Link.

Weis has two top 10 recruiting classes already and the no. 1 ranked class for 2008. Ty had one top 10 class out of three and his last two were the two worst in ND history.

Weis has shown a willingness to change assistant coaches when they show they aren't capable. Ty refused to fire Kent Baer, his defensive coordinator, no matter how absurdly bad the defense was.

Ty didn't play Jeff Samardzija for two years. He played Ryan Grant over Julius Jones in 2003 - Grant infamously had more carries than Jones in the Pitt game where Jones broke the ND record for rushing yards in a game.

Weis has eight more years on his contract, so firing him would be financially irresponsible. (Stupid to give him the extension in the first place, I know.)

By the way, where's the bellyaching about Florida firing Ron Zook 2.5 years into his contract, with a better record than Willingham? Oh, Zook is white and Florida is currently winning so that makes it ok.

I think Stoops has done enough to keep his job out in Tucson.

Florida has been good since Urban Meyer took over and they never had a good year under Zook. Keep in mind, they won a national championship under Meyer. Weis has, granted, had less talent but hasn't won even a BCS bowl game. I'm not supporting Weis being fired, just that the comparison with Meyer is completely invalid.

Also, Zook was the sacrificial lamb for a legend. Whoever followed Spurrier had to be just as successful or he would have been fired. That's how it goes following a legend, fair or not.

I doubt at this point Fulmer gets fired, but if he does I have no idea where Mike Hamilton will look for a replacement. His only two hires, Bruce Pearl and Todd Rollings (baseball coach), came from smaller schools and I don't think either were I-A. I tend to think it would be somebody younger that could re-envigorate the fans. Sort of like Pearl.

Are you trying to say that Bob Davie isnt a legend?

There was a recent article on KU written by Jason King. It talked about Al Bohl, the Athletic Director who hired Mangino. He gave Nick Saban, Gary Pinkel, and Pat Hill their first jobs, and he identified Urban Meyer as a future star and potential coach for KU.

Mangino, Meyer, Pinkel, Saban, Hill...that's not a bad eye for talent. If I'm an AD looking for a coach, I might bring him in as a consultant.
