Peterson was injured the last two years which is why his stats aren't as good.

Peterson ran for 1925 yards as a true freshman. McFadden ran for 1113 as a freshman.

Look at the difference in carries and YPC as freshmen... that's why. DMac has been hurt too, he's just played through them. He's got a better YPC in all three years.

Also, the reason that he didn't have as many carries as a freshman is that his idiot of a coach didn't think that he was the best tailback and almost made him a free safety. That's another reason why Nutt needs to be fired.

Should win? Tebow- but they'll never give this award to a Sophomore

Will win? McFadden- because the voters always favor the best running back

6 of the last 7 Heisman winners have been QB's. The only non-QB to win was Reggie Bush in 2005.

and of those 6, one (Palmer) has a real career in the NFL while a second (Leinart) may do well. Weinke, Crouch, White and Smith...ha ha ha

the best part is that you would cut off your own leg to have any of those four at the end there quarterbacking for Penn State

QB is not usually a strong point at this program, this is true. blame Paterno for that. he doesn't really like them. If he could find a RB who could throw, he'd probably just direct snap it to him every down and pass it only when necessary

I guess that shows how little I've been paying attention to the Heisman the last few years. Still, it would be hard to argue that another QB has been a better college QB than Tebow this year. That doesn't mean he will or won't be a good pro QB but his college numbers against very good competition are undeniable.

Tebow's job is made far easier by having complete freaks surrounding him (Percy Harvin, Cornelius Ingram, Andre Caldwell, etc). McFadden doesn't have nearly the same arsenal around him (Felix Jones and Marcus Monk may be the only pro prospect skill position players getting regular PT - maybe an Arkasas fan can help me out). McFadden is also facing similar competition with the far inferior talent surrounding him and is excelling immensely.

McFadden deserves it and earned it more so than any other player in college football.

Cuse voted for the Big East guy?? =; :-# [-(

Eastern Bias!

I love watching that kid and I think his value is very underrated due to Slaton. I really do believe that no one really stands out and I think the Oregon QB should be the winner but his injury will bounce him out.

Remember, the Heisman is supposed to go to the best player in college football, not the best player on the best team.

Hart from Michigan or Boeckman from Ohio St.? Seriously? You didn't even put the best player in the Big Ten on that list.

Look at the date of the original post... I took the names right off of the ESPN Heisman page.

Piddly Diddly off.

Have a great day.

A couple of names that won't get consideration but just to throw them out there:

UCF's Kevin Smith, who will finish 2007 with the 2nd most single-season rushing yards total in NCAA football history behind only Barry Sanders

CMU's Dan LeFevour, who has more rushing and passing yards than Tim Tebow and today joined Vince Young as the only 3,000/1,000 QBs in college football history

No love for Graham Harrell?

468/644 (1st in NCAA)

72.7% completion (1st in NCAA)

5,298 Yards (1st in NCAA)

45 TD's (1st in NCAA)

160.49 RAT (6th in NCAA)

Only 14 INT and 13 times sacked in all those attempts?

I know his team probably has a much easier schedule than most, but thats impressive either way. I don't think he necessarily deserves it, but he should at least garner some recognition by most everyone, those numbers are stout no matter which way you slice it.

Regardless of all that, I voted for Tebow because he's just the best all around player, and I hate Tim Tebow and the Gators. A lot. In fact I'm not a fan of anyone whose first and last name begin with the same letter and whose whole name consists of only 3 syllables. Except Terry Tate, he's boss.

Like Colt Brennan, Harrell won't win because he will be viewed by many as a system quarterback.
