haveen't seen illinois play yet, but is mendenhall that good? this looks to be a very eep draft year for backs.

I'd take Darren McFadden, Felix Jones and Jonathan Stewart ahead of him but I think Mendenhall would be the fourth best RB in the draft if all of them turn pro. Definitely a day 1 guy, maybe a 2nd rounder.

Louisiana Tech vs. LSU

Not a mismatch. Tech is much improved this year. They almost beat Hawai'i.

Hawai'i isn't LSU. LSU likely beats Hawai'i by 20.

You can't convince me Vance. Hawai'i is undefeated. LSU is not.

Are you really suggesting that Hawai'i is anywhere near the team LSU is? Alabama would crush Hawai'i; Flordia would demolish them; Kentucky likely beats them by two scores; Auburn would be a 13 point favorite against them; hell, even Mississippi State might beat them. Viginia Tech would as well.

If Hawai'i played LSU's schedule this year, they would have four losses already, and maybe have a losing record.

I wish i could say the Illini/Ohio State game would be close but i just dont see it. I like Mendenhall a lot but i dont like Juice passing it against OSU at at all. Maybe Mendenhall will have the game of his life, Juice needs one of those too.

I think Mendenhall and Slaton are about the same but I know people who disagree with me on that. Ray Rice is physically behind these other guys, imo. There are some nice players available beyond the first round.

And I LOVE Felix Jones. I think he could have the best career in this class.

You're probably right, but I hate it when people make that argument. They don't play LSU's schedule, so we'll never know.

I'll admit your point is well taken, but I think you're kidding yourself if you think that Hawaii has the talent to hang with most teams in the SEC. That and their schedule is for the most part a joke too.

But he's clearly right here. Using the criteria from the preceding weeks, Ohio State-Illinois is a mismatch. Florida-Auburn and Kansas-Nebraska both were labeled mismatches. Following the same logic, so is Ohio State-Illinois. Saying otherwise exposes bias.

Now, is Ohio State-Illinois a mismatch? I don't think so, but that's not the issue.

I don't disagree, I'm just saying he hasn't been "spot on on all his other predictions" for the whole season.

His projections are certainly more accurate than most, just not spot on. That would just be lucky.

THere have been alot of reports coming out recently saying hes expected to go. Also, honestly his stock may never be higher, although with the team U of I will have coming back next year, he very easily could be in the Heisman discussion next year. I think its a toss up right now, but it wouldnt surprise me if he left.

Something to add to all of the discussion and a new thought

1. I like Mendenhall. I am not sure he is as good as Illinois fans think he is though. Would he really be drafted ahead of Hart? I know Hart is small and not very fast. He has great vision and moves well in the hole though.

2. Does it really matter how the game is listed. Maybe in the future Andy you should just list the games and let someone else worry about it. Or just go with the line in the paper. If its over 7 call it a mismatch. Less than 7 call it a good game.

3. New thought. Callahan is going to get fired in Nebraska. I am not argueing one way or another about this. I was wondering, is his record and situation not a lot different than Charlie Weiss. He has had good recruiting classes. He has had some success. What is really the reason why Callahan is going to get fired and Weiss is safe for at least another year.

I don't follow Illinois football so I have no clue but I would if I were him. I think a day 1 running back should always turn pro since it's the easiest position to transition to in the NFL from college and also because of the phsyical demand the position takes (the shelf life of a RB isn't that great so why waste more years at college wearing yourself down?).

I'd take Mendenhall over Hart at the next level just because of durability.

Hart is going to leave Michigan with like 1200 carries on his resume. He's too little and too slow to survive for long in the NFL.

McFadden

Jonathon Stewart

Felix Jones

Mendenhall

the rest are tier-2 guys

Slaton is fast but doesn't have the size or the vision to be a top pick. I could see him late second early third.

- A good idea on the spreads, but I don't think the spreads are usually up yet when I post these threads since I try and get them up as soon as I can after the AP polls are released. Though if I'm wrong I can switch to that.

- Weis's recruiting classes are far better than Callahan's, he has had more success than Callahan, and most importantly, he is signed for eight more years after this one and has a rather large buyout so firing him would be cost-ineffective. I'm personally willing to give him through 2009 - his recruiting has been far too good, this year's upperclassmen far too nonexistent, and this year's schedule far too taxing (I believe ND is the only team in the nation that's played a team with a winning 2007 record every game so far) to justify firing him right now. The 2008 schedule is very conducive to turning it around and, provided he's learned how to coach kids in the meantime, over .500 is very achievable.
