Emanuel Negedu has asked out of his LOI at Arizona, and speculation is that if it's granted, Tennessee and Indiana are likely destinations, with Tennessee leading. A signing is expected to happen fairly quickly.

If he is not granted the dismissal, he has said that he will attend another year of prep school.

Indiana just offered a scholarship to one of Negedu's buddies...some 7 footer who was playing at a C.C. Hmmm. I'll provide more details when I get home.

Update:

Tijan Jobe, the 7-footer from Olney Central, has apparently accepted a scholarship offer from IU and will join the class of 2008.

According to Scout.com, Jobe averaged four points and four rebounds a year ago.

Emmanuel Negedu, the former Indiana Elite forward, will apparently get his release form Arizona and has some interest in playing for Indiana.

Meanwhile, Tijan Jobe, another African who happens to be good buddies with Negedu (from Nigeria) apparently visited Indiana today and may have even chosen to sign with the Hoosiers. The good news: he’s 7 feet tall. The bad news: he apparently averaged three points and three rebounds per game last year at Olney Central Junior College.

All those players leaving is gonna kill their scores and cost them some serious scholarships.

I thought if transfers stay academically eligible and graduate elsewhere it doesn't hurt the school. Or something like that. Am I wrong?

The school still takes a ding under the APR for a transfer -- if a player transfers while ineligible, that's really bad for the school.

Yeah, I think ISU lost 2 scholarships for McDermott's first year for having a terrible graduation rate under Morgan. Probably more to come since they graduated 2 scholarship players this year, 1 last year, and only have one guy from McDermott's 1st squad in 2006-2007 left on the roster now.

Per Rivals, J'Mison Morgan will hold a press conference tomorrow at 12 noon at his high school to announce his decision.

J'Mison Morgan postponed his announcement to Monday (do they actually have school on Monday in Texas??) and UCLA STILL hasn't received his release paperwork from LSU (and thusly UCLA cannot talk to him). Either they don't know what a fax machine is in Louisiana or Trent Johnson and LSU are just continuing their pettiness since schools like Kansas, Cincinnati and Oklahoma State sure got his release paperwork. Either way, bad news for UCLA, it appears.

Brandon McGee has been dismissed from the IU team for "academic and other reasons". So now we have 2 returning scholarship players instead of 3. Plus 6 incoming players so far and perhaps a walk on or two. \:D/

Indiana Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Crean announced today that freshman Brandon McGee (Chicago/Crane HS) has been dismissed from the program for academic and team guideline negligence.

“Our coaching and support staff tried to make this work out, but we felt that there were some basic standard operating procedures that were not being met,” said Crean. “I feel badly for his family and Coach (Anthony) Longstreet (Crane Head Coach) who were helping us to try and make this work, but in the end it just was not possible to continue in the current direction.”

He played in just 17 games and averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds.

Jesus, the Kelvin Sampson era was something else. Did he even ask the kids to go to class? Good to see EJ could end up with him again with the Bucks at the 6th pick.

It sounds like everything fell apart in February when Sampson was dismissed. Everybody did decently in their first semester, but second semester once Sampson was gone most of them stopped going to class. Some of them tried to make it up when Crean showed up, but it was too late.

I know White and Gordon finished the semester fine as far as academics goes. I think Crean waited until after the semester was over to dismiss Bassett and Ellis hoping they would at least remain eligible, but I'm not sure if he succeeded.

What's keeping Crawford?

according to his facebook account he is an IU Alum '07. I think he will probably be gone too.

I don't see Crawford going anywhere.

It might be ugly for a while in Bloomington but I expect Crean to do a good job. I think it says a lot that he is willing to kick off half the team and just deal with the losses.

I don't think he had a lot of choice. Those guys didn't have the grades.

Probably, but usually they try to get them up through summer school. In these cases, they were either too low to bring up or he just didn't want to deal with them.

He picked up a pretty good PG for 09 last week, local boy Jordan Hulls.

He is doing it right, punt this year and just start recruiting like hell for the next few.

I really wouldn't want to go after a rookie PG and a rookie PF, especially if you have veterans possible at both positions. It is creative, but you better believe they are head and shoulders better than other potential targets in free agency and the trade block to go that route.

Wrong thread, this is for discussion of Indiana and Illinois basketball.

I blame Soriano for my posting in the wrong thread.

True that.
