And will Torre retire or could he return to the Cardinals as manager?

And would St. Louis find a way to cough up money for ARod?

There is noway in hell Larussa could handle the media in NY. He has troubles handling it in Stl and they have 1 newspaper. Id say the chance of Larussa going to NY is about slim and none.

Girardi or Mattingly will be the next NY manager in my opinion.

That's the easy part for Steinbrenner, who clearly has been poised to end the Torre era

Hahahah. Seriously? Is this what NY believes? Steinbrenner's been an incorrigible gasbag throughout the entire time he's been owner of the Yanks. It's been Torre who has been patient through everything.

I could see LaRussa going to New York. What would be great though is that Tony won't be able to put up with George's crap forever. At some point he's going to fire back. I'm thinking this could work out well. Those two might very well dogfight each other as the Yanks fade down in the standings. Perfect.

I think that George being sick has taken a lot of fight out of him.

That's funny. Let's hope they keep the little engine that could.

Torre managed in St. Louis before and it didn't turn out too well. I think he was right before Herzog.

Right after, he went straight from fired from the Cardinals to 12 postseasons in a row with the Yanks.

I assume the Lou to NY rumors will commense immediately upon Torre's departure.

Meh. Let him go. I wouldn't be bothered by it if he wasn't back next year. He was a step above Dusty, but wasn't that great IMO.

i could go either way on that. i thought Lou was fine (slightly better than I expected). it really just depends on who they would bring in to replace him. that's what i would be afraid of more than losing Lou. probably Girardi, which I wouldn't really be a fan of.

Well, in Girardi's defense he had those youngsters playing better than they did this year. They couldn't wait to get rid of him -- for what, so they could post a 70-win season and sink to Expos-type-lows in attendance?

I don't think Girardi's that bad. I find it more likely the Marlins are just a junky organization.

While I think it's unlikely that Lou would leave for NY, I would think the replacement for him should it happen ought to be Torre.

I'd be ok with Girardi, but I haven't really seen much I dislike from Torre (granted I've only seen his Yankee days). He's obviously won quite a bit while keeping quite a few huge egos mostly in check and, more importantly, has overseen the development of many youngsters and highly patient hitters.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Torre here if (and again, I doubt the likelihood) Lou heads to the Bronx.

We could do a hell of a lot worse than Lou as the manager. I'd prefer to keep him here.
