I guarantee we'll be hearing a lot about it was a fun ride, and we went from worst to first.

This team wasnt built for a fun ride. It was built to go all the way, not collapse when it counts.

As for worst to first, that arguement might hold up had this been the same team as last year, but again, $300,000,000 later, the expectations were a bit higher.

This team shouldnt be proud of themselves. They gave one of the worst post season performances in recent memory. They didnt come to play ball. Bottom line.

Time to figure out the ownership situation so Hendry can squander his money on more garbage.

The Cubs are a mediocre team. They lost to a team that was much better than them.

And stop with that ridiculous $300 million dollar BS.

I dont understand why people keep saying this. The Cubs have one of the better offenses in the NL. They have one of the better rotations in the NL. They have one of the better bullpens in the NL. So why cant they come together as a cohesive unit? If you cant come together and form Voltron all you have is a bunch of goofs riding around in robot lions.

best offenses in the nl? the cubs were 8th in runs scored, 8th in slg, 9th in obp, 11th in home runs, and 8th in ops. we were mediocre at best on offense.

the cubs probably had the 2nd best pitching overall, but they also gave up the 4th most walks, so it's not like the pitching was lights out.

it's disappointing the cubs lost and played like they did, but i don't think anyone should be shocked.

I don't want to hear anymore of your cookie cutter negative posts that you recycle and regurgitate every three days, but you don't hear me crying about it.

I agree with the tone of the post. There are winners and losers, and after all is said and done this year, the 2007 Cubs were losers. They looked terrible at the time of year when it mattered most.

Exactly. Everyone who has followed this team this year knows how bad this offense underachieved. There were many stretches in the season when the offense would just flame out completely. Unfortunately, it flamed out in the playoffs as well.

The pitching was good, but as indicated, it was also a little bit erratic. It's painful to know that the Cubs are eliminated (especially in the way they were eliminated, but I just felt like they had too many flaws to make a serious run at it this year.

Playing meaningful games in September, and playing post-season baseball in October - for me, that was a fun ride except it was shorter than anticipated.

They'll be back in 2008!

Exactly. I'm disappointed with the results in the playoffs, but who's to say the effort wasn't there. They tried their best, and it wasn't good enough.

I enjoyed caring about baseball for the entire summer. I haven't been able to say that in a few years. I love wanting to watch the Cubs play in September and October, and I got that this year. Hopefully we can work get a few more players to improve our team. At worse, we're an 85-90 win team next year. I'm excited for the future and thankful for a fun year. Hopefully the ending is better next year.

Meh, they were an 85 win ballclub in the worst division in baseball. That says they weren't all that great a baseball team.

I don't see how this was such a great surprise. The Cubs bats were prone to shut down like this all year long. What we just saw was a microcosm of what was happening at times in the previous 6 months.

Maybe it's the fact that I was out of town and watching the games by myself late at night, but I never truly got the feel that we were even involved in post-season baseball. Every game just had a sense of inevitibility to it and it really never felt like the Cubs were in the series.

Trying to put perspective on it where I flew all the way to Chicago to watch the Cubs crap the bed is hard. On the other hand, considering where I thought this season was going in April and May and even mid-June after dropping 2 of 3 to the Rangers, it's was an acceptable ending.

This team has been up and down all year. They weren't a bad team, but they weren't a particularly good team. Teams like that rarely go far in the postseason unless they get extremely lucky. In fact, those teams rarely make the postseason unless they are lucky. We were lucky that there were no good teams in our division.

This is a very very average offense. And, of course, another word for average is mediocre.
