this illini team is an SEC style team. could have some incredible success against the lumbering giants in the big ten.

Why do you sneak it Zook? You have a RB whos averaging almost 9 yards per carry wtf.

 

That RB is a lot better in a spread it out speed offense (the usual look for Illinois). He's not a huge bruiser.

 

Besides, when you need less than a yard and you have a good runner at QB, you don't want to have to hand the ball off 5 yards in the backfield. There's simply too much time for possible penetration by the defense.

 

But Mendehall was getting yards up the middle, outside, wherever he went. THeir offensive line is 1 of the best in the country, Id rather trust my guy averaging 8.5 yards a carry, than a qb trying to sneak it. To many things can go wrong on that sneak play(like the almost fumble).

I really think this team is pretty good. Some questionable coaching calls made this game closer than it should have.

 

I am worried about the pass D. Chase Daniel is gonna light us up.

 

They are a solid team. If it was in Lawrence I'd be pretty worried, but like you said, unless your pass defense greatly improves by the last game of the year (which is very possible, lots of football left), our offense shouldnt have much of a problem.

Honestly, they only have Michigan and Ohio State left on their schedule, and we all know Michigan is nothing special. Next week could be trouble though too, coming off such a big win this week.

So as an Illinios fan, we should be rooting for Ohio State tonight right? We dont play Purdue this year, so if Ohio State wins then we can control our own destiny, by beating Ohio State. Is my thinking correct?

With Minnesota at home and Eastern Michigan come up, they absolutely have to and should run this to a 3 game winning streak and get back in position for a bowl.

What I'm most impressed with about Illinois is that the teams they've played haven't really been patsies (aside from Western Illinois). Syracuse is apparently an average Big East team, Missouri could win the Big 12, and Indiana and Wisconsin have their only Big Ten losses against Illinois, with a previously ranked Penn State as the other win.

 

I just hope they don't lay eggs against the less highly regarded teams on their schedule.

So as an Illinios fan, we should be rooting for Ohio State tonight right? We dont play Purdue this year, so if Ohio State wins then we can control our own destiny, by beating Ohio State. Is my thinking correct?

 

who does purdue have left? because i don't see them as capable of running the table, not balanced enough. they'll get steamrolled tonight, though anyway.

Yea next weeks game could be a letdown game. After the big win today, I hope they dont overlook Iowa next week.

i feel pretty good about michigan. ohio state will be a bloodbath, slugfest, whatever you want to call it. the illini generally play tosu well.

Purdue has Michigan, Iowa,Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan State, and Indiana.

Honestly, I don't think that Purdue is that good. I'd be surprised if they had less than 2-3 losses in the Big 10. All 3 of those road games are not going to be easy, and two of the home games have shootout potential, and who knows what might happen in those.

Illinois at Indiana in hindsight might have been one of the biggest games in the Big Ten this season. 8-)

If my memory is correct, over their last three meetings, Northwestern has put up 135 points on Michigan State.

BTW, Indiana rolled over Minnesota today 40-20 to move to 5-1 overall. They just need 1 win in their last 7 to be bowl eligible and accomplish Hoeppner's dream. It would have to be an absolute collapse for them to not do it now (they still have Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Ball State, Northwestern, and Purdue left-if they are any good at all, they should be able to win 2-3 of those I would think).

 

I believe Illinois should be ranked this week, and Indiana should be receiving votes to be ranked. That's just insane after the last couple of years.

You should. Our defense isn't bad, it's gotten pretty good at the "bend don't break," as in give up tons of yards but not a lot of points, but I'm not sure how well that'll work in conference play. We've got a lot of talent on defense though, so it'd be nice if they could get their act together because I think it could be a very good defense.
