Any specifics as to what caused Trax to have his mini-meltdown towards the media in the clubhouse the other night. Reports I've read on this have been vague, and there's been no indication of what exactly set him off. Bruce, if you reading this, any more specifics on this episode?

he couldn't grasp the reality of his suckiness and released his inner anger on reporters. it was a disgusting sight to see, this suckiness of his. i thought i was done watching it back in '99 or so, but here it is again. his suckiness is like a forever pimple...it will never go away.

What exactly did he say/do?

From the Sun-Times:

The night before, Trachsel had a mini-meltdown, shouting obscenities at a small group of reporters who had joined some Cubs watching the Brewers game on a big-screen clubhouse TV. The outburst came just minutes after Piniella held a rare team meeting and told his players to relax and have fun.

Trachsel's tirade was shades of 2004, when reliever Kent Mercker -- among others -- became distracted down the stretch and waged war against broadcasters Steve Stone and Chip Caray.

Trachsel's always been a little high strung. Remember in Sept '98 when he gave up HR #62 to McGwire at Busch? Trachsel was really pissed that McGwire got high-fives from some of the Cubs infielders (I know for certain Grace gave him one). I actually don't blame him for being pissed -- after all, the Cubs were in a playoff drive so it wasn't a meaningless HR in the bigger picture -- but IIRC Trachsel publically called out his teammates for doing that.

He must have hated Sosa with a passion, LOL.

I only hope the rest of the guys on this team are just rolling their eyes at him and going about their business.

He's grandpa, ya know?

I hope they look at him like the senile old man rather than the sage source of wisdom.

Then again, how do you think they view Lou?? Hehe...

I heard on the Score yesterday by one of the reporters that was there that in his opinion media blew it out of proportion. No Cubs players were watching the game, only some media guys. Trachsel came out and said turn the effin game off. The reporter (I don't remember who it was) thought he was joking around.

So even knowing that he's one of the suckiest pitchers in baseball, we brought him in because of he's a veteran who has been there before and he won't meltdown under pressure like a young player ... then he proceeds to suck and meltdown.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. Jesse Rogers said Trachsel was just giving the reporters a hard time and was laughing when he did it. He said he also asked them if they had a deadline or something to worry about. He said it was pretty clear to him that Trachsel was playing around with them and he was surprised at the reaction to it.

Trachsel bought off the Score guy. That's how he rolls.

He drinks too. And skins cats.

That's what you get for listening. Trachsel clearly was not laughing or joking. No, it wasn't all that big a deal, but it was totally uncalled for, unprofessional, and Lou and the coaches were not amused. The clubhouse has been a pretty nice place this year, and I'm sure Lou feels they don't need a sourpuss like Trachsel ruining things. (And Cubs players were watching the game.)

Well then, I hate to hear that. Thanks for clearing it up.

Was he provoked in any way to lash out or was he just irritated the media were there and felt like being a jerk?

It doesn't seem out of character for him to act like a pompous ass.
