If the division does end up in a tie, Marquis would be scheduled to start on Monday in the one game playoff versus the Brewers at Wrigley. I say Lou, skips Marquis and starts Trachsel based on his experience in one game playoffs as a Cub. Sure he has been terrible lately, but we know the Cubs won that game in '98 and if I recall correctly, he didn't even give up a hit!

If it gets to a playoff, we have about as close to zero chance of winning as you could possibly have.

Marquis/Trachsel is like choosing between hanging or the firing squad in a game like that. There would be simply no chance against that Brewers lineup.

I highly suggest that the Cubs don't let it come to that. You know, my highest recommendation? I recommend not choking like a bunch of choky choksters.

The Cubs not collapsing to the one-game playoff receives as high a recommendation from me as I would give you a young man not becoming a murderer. Well -- close.

1) Go to college

2) Don't kill people

3) Don't collapse so you need a one game playoff

It is.

If the Cubs win tonight, I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Cubs skipped Ted Lilly's scheduled start on Sunday, even if they lose on Saturday. I think he'll take his chances that the Cubs will win the division on a Brewer's loss. Should it come down to a one-game playoff, Lilly would be the guy to go to.

But again, all this hinges on the Cubs winning tonight.

Don't forget theres always a possibility that Ben Sheets could be healthy enough to go out there and pitch a one game playoff. That could be disasterous

You are right. He's just in a holding pattern right now, waiting for his injury to get good enough to go.

Actually the Crew could wheel him out at any time this weekend if he's suddenly ready and they need it. Or, they might put him in for a BP appearance if it will help.

The Crew have a few cards left to play. It's not over.

You know what annoys me about that game in 1998? Trachsel. Yeah, he only gave up 1 hit. He also walked like 6 guys in 6 innings, and we would have been soundly spanked had the Giants been able to have even a below average BABIP.

He was extraordinarily lucky that game.

It would either be Sheets or Gallardo.

The CUBS magic number is two while the Brewers magic number is five with three games left. I'd say a one game playoff is highly unlikely at this point, but this scenario does involve the CUBS so anything is possible.

I heartily endorse this recommendation. :D
