The Pirates are reportedly set to hire Cleveland assistant Neal Huntington as their new GM.

Quite a surprise that would be. It's Chris Antonetti from the Cleveland system who has frequently been mentioned in connection with GM jobs. Antonetti, though, apparently turned down an interview, as he did with the Red Sox a couple of years ago. The 37-year-old Huntington began working with the Expos in 1992 and joined the Indians in 1998. He spent three years as the director of player development before moving up. Judging by his history, he'll do wonders for a weak Pirates farm system. Still, time will tell if he's ready for the rest of it.

What's your opinion Jake? He seems like a huge upgrade over Littlefield.

I like it for the Pirates.

With so many fresh younger faces like Antonetti and Kim etc. around I don't understand how a majority of GM hires seem to be retreads like Wade.

I notice the baseball genius, Steve Stone is never on anyone's list.

For good reason.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed they stay away from Logan White and Chris Antonetti. I'm hoping one of those two guys ends up replacing Jim Hendry.

Anyone remember his "Ramirez for Izturis" trade idea years back? Awful

Pirates will hold a press conference to name former Indians asst GM Neal Huntington their new GM.

Not a bad move on their part. Then again, it'll be pretty hard to top the stupidity the Pirates have had to deal with these past few years.

Their drafts have been a joke the past few years. Alwyas taking an average college pitcher who may or may not be a reliever. Heck even McCutchen and Walker leave something to be desired. Although as Cubs fan I shouldn't throw too many stones what with living in a glass house.

Look. The Bucs have had many bad drafts. And, a lot of bad luck to go with them. (Let's face it, most of the pitchers drafted are lost to injury.)

But, McCutcheon and Walker are the two they got right. No one ripped those at the time of the drafts.

They shouldn't be rushing McCutcheon like they have, though.
