It's the world against the Cubs:

ST.LOUIS -- Unless Albert Pujols sees drastic improvement in his strained left calf in the next few days, his season could be over.

"I can't make that decision right now, it will be up to the trainers. ... But as of right now, no [i don't think I could play]," Pujols said. "Anything's possible, I guess. If I feel like I can play, I'll play.

"It's pretty bad. When I was warming up [Tuesday], during my first sprint, I felt a pop and just couldn't go."

Cards manager Tony La Russa and Pujols both said before Wednesday's game that Pujols was very doubtful for the weekend series against the Astros. After that series, Pujols will be re-evaluated. If it hasn't improved, he will then likely be shut down for the season.

So he'd likely miss the upcoming series with Milwaukee

Wow. Can you imagine the lineup the Cards will put on the field without Albert? That's one bad lineup.

Their last 2 games against the Phillies were without Pujols, and somehow they got both games into extra innings and won 1 of them. Here are the two lineups:

Tuesday

Taguchi

Ryan

Cairo

Spezio

Ankiel

Molina

Scumaker

Wellemeyer

Barden

Wednesday

Eckstein

Taguchi

Ankiel

Spiezio

Cairo

Schumaker

Molina

Wainwright

Miles

Yeah, those are pretty bad. I think we have to hope that the Cardinals take 1 from Milwaukee.

The Cards seem to play tough no matter who they put out there. With their pitching staff and all of the injuries they have had this year, they had no business staying in the race until the last 3 weeks.

That lineup might be able to win 1 of 4 vs. the Royals, if they had a healthy Chris Carpenter on the mound. Anytime you have red beard at cleanup, you're in trouble. However, they did take one from the Phillies who have a better overall lineup than the Brewers.

Seriously, that lineup is worse than our AA lineup.

Why can't the Cubs also catch a break and have Griffey get hurt and miss the last series? Oh, wait a second....

Is he done for the year? I hadn't heard anything.

Griffey =/= Pujols

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Ken Griffey Jr. will miss the rest of the season because of a strained groin, the latest in a string of injuries to Cincinnati's All-Star outfielder.

It had a lot more to do with the horrendous division they play in then how tough they've played.

Color me not concerned. If the Cubs lose this division it won't be because Pujols sat out 3 games against Milwaukee.

Thank you.

Some fans on here really think that the Cards players are rooting for Milwaukee to overtake the Cubs. So much that they would sit out. The Astros too.

The Cubs have an easy enough schedule they should be able to win without the Cards help. And it's not like the Cards have rolled over.

Nobody stepped up and beat the Astros last year until the final three in Atlanta.

Tough Cards lose 18-1 last night to the Lastros... Cubs hav gotta sweep FLA while MIL is sweeping the birds

Cards will beat the Brewers once. They have a tendency to lose big, lose big, then win one.

If the Cubs can win 5 out of 6 against the Pirates and Marlins, they won't have to worry much about what the Brewers do.

If the Cards were to sweep the series, I'd use a Cardinals avatar for the remainder of the regular season.
