Indiana vs Illinois should be an awesome game. Getting to 4-0 would almost clinch a bowl game for IU with remaining games against the likes of Minnesota, Ball State and Northwestern. Plus the Iowa, MSU & Purdue games are also winnable.....tough but winnable.

Ball State isn't a gimme this year.

They weren't a gimme last year either when IU had to rally from 17 points down to win 24-23. I'm just saying if IU is good enough to start 4-0 then I feel like they will be able to take those 3 games at the very least.

But I'm trying to not look ahead too much. It's just been a long time since I really felt this good about Indiana football again.

While Ball State isn't a gimme, it's still a game IU should win. A 4-0 start would sure put them in prime position for a bowl, and, as I've said, an 8-4 or so record even. Going to be a tough game this weekend, can't wait for it and the tailgate. Go Hoosiers!

So Notre Dame is letting Demetrius Jones get out of his scholarship, right? Looks like a good move. That is until they kept NIU off of the list of the schools where they would waive their scholarship if Jones transferred to one of those schools. Jones is at DeKalb and is attending classes, so he seems intent on just paying for school this year before earning a scholarship beginning in 2008.

Still, this is a complete joke. I used to not have a problem with ND, but this is just completely ridiculous. They are handling this in a very unprofessional and idiotic way.

Yeah, I'm not happy about this.

I think ND is probably mad that 1) Jones completely deserted them. It's not that he transferred, he just left without a word and held up the team before a game. 2) NIU was probably guilty of tampering. The fact that he was not known to have been transferring on Friday afternoon (even to the team or the university), and then suddenly he enrolls at NIU Friday night? They almost certainly contacted him before he declared his inent to transfer, which is against the rules.

At the same time, Jones is a young kid. ND is a university and should know better than to fire back at a kid. Just be the bigger party in this ND and let him go to NIU, don't make it more messy then he already made it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they are going to do that.

What the media is not reporting is that NIU has no scholarships available.

The Huskies couldn't give him one if they wanted to, so letting him out or not is pretty much a nonissue.

But the media loves Notre Dame, don't let facts and omissions persuade you otherwise.

He enrolled midweek, not even Friday. He was already enrolled at the school when he left the team bus, and probably went to at least 2 practices while already enrolled at NIU. There is definitely something fishy here.

But Novak is 90% likely to retire after this year. So why on earth would he tamper with Jones when he's not even going to coach him?

And yeah, I realize NIU is out of scholarships this year. But don't you think it's weird that ND doesn't even put NIU on that list? They know he's at NIU. Yeah, Jones probably didn't do this in the best way. But ND has to be guilty of handling this in just as bad of a way, if not worse.

Why the eff are they guilty of anything? Jones is the one that randomly zipped out of school, presumably after hearing that Clausen had been No. 1 on the depth chart entering summer practice pre-elbow procedure (from the Mr. Obvious report - I suppose Jones is the only one that didn't know that the procedure is the only reason there was a competition in the first place). All Notre Dame did was watch him skip out. I fail to see what they did wrong other than recruit this dope in the 1st place.

They handled it in a brutal way. Just let him go and get rid of scholarship. There, what's so hard about that? They said they weren't going to take his scholarship away and now they say they will, but they have to have a list of teams that they would accept? I've never heard of anything like this in transfer situations.

I look at it this way. Jones was screwed in the QB situation seeing how the whole "Notre Dame QB Derby" was a complete farce as Claussen would've been the starter if he didn't have surgery. He was promised that he would have an equal shot at winning the job. Saying Claussen would've been the starter if it weren't for his shoulder surgery isn't an "equal shot at the job." ND didn't just "watch him skip out" as they're putting these restrictions (or attempting) on him. If he was promised a shot at winning the job, then that falls on Weis. I don't blame him for leaving if a coach can't back up his word.

You obviously haven't seen Pete Carroll at work.

That state of yours certainly has a lot of talented HS players.

I think you're going to have to root for Missouri and Texas Tech to help push it up.

Syracuse and ND are the only 2 winless BCS teams.

Well, looks like ND changed their minds:

Notre Dame released quarterback Demetrius Jones from his scholarship and cleared the final obstacle from his path to Northern Illinois. Or wherever he ultimately decides to go.

I'd like to make a crack about Iowa State here, but my boys ruined that for me last week.

don't worry -- they'll get at least 1 win this year.

won't they?

The SEC will again have no teams playing on the road against a Non-Conference team. That's 4 weeks and only 1 of the 12 to play an away game all year, that being Tennessee which lost to Cal. Every other TEAM in the BCS has had an away game with a non league foe.

Stupid A teams. I started at the end of the alphabet and didn't finish the list! Still, 1 PAC 10, I'm just amazed how the SEC can do that and no one notices.
