I'm not gonna do that obnoxious "Fixed" thing anymore because its pretty insulting, but I was really tempted to just "fix" your post to just say: "Trachsel starting the game"

 

I mean seriously. We've seen 3 starts out of him, three starts to prove that he has absolutely nothing left.

 

We got sooooo lucky today.

I couldn't agree more. The Trachsel deal, and his subsequent starts, were terrible, terrible decisions. I cannot express my true feelings without immediately banning myself.

Wasn't the deal Hendry, not Lou? Lou might have asked for a starting pitcher because of the 24 games in 23 days, but Hendry was the one that got him.

Well it was basically Trachsel or Hart for this game cause we were playing 6 games in 5 days. I'm still not sold on Hart as a prospect so I can give him some leeway, but I definitely would've had Gallagher or Hart up and throwing at the first sign of trouble. Instead Lou played with fire for 5 innings. Luckily, Trachsel got out of it alive.

Is it too much to ask a guy to get the job done with a 4 run lead? Then if Lou doesn't put Desmpster in, out come the "Dempster needs regular work" excuses.

It did go from a save situation to a non-save situation in about 10 seconds after 2 outs, though. Hard to fault him for it, but it would be nice if Dempster could figure out how to get outs consistently, though.

 

Truth be told, the Cub bullpen has been fantastic on the year, so they might have been due for a few bad outings. A pen of Dempster, Howry, Marmol, Wood, Eyre and Wuertz isn't too shabby, especially with how Eyre has pitched in the second half. Wuertz is at the back of the pen this year after being their best reliever last year.

With a four run lead, I wouldn't have put him in. It's not close to being a "terrible" decision though. Great call going with Ward though.

I don't fault Lou for using Dempster tonight. The game turned so suddenly, there might not have been enough time to warm up another reliever after the Cubs increased the lead from 1 to 4.

I can't be too upset with Lou for that. Z had gotten 6 outs in a row (5 batters) and his pitches were looking better in the 5th. He had 2 hard hit outs out of those 5 batters. It's not a situation where Lou is suddenly going to pull him
