What makes the Rose Bowl bigger than the Sugar Bowl? Just because Big Ten and Pac Ten biased fans say so?

Is Michigan a bigger job than Notre Dame? Probably not. Is Michigan a bigger job than even Nebraska? Probably not....Is Michigan a bigger job than Alabama, probably not.

Seriously, the Rose Bowl is unquestionably the biggest bowl game.

Notre Dame is probably the best job in college football. Michigan is certainly bigger than Nebraska. Alabama may have a good argument, but Michigan is still better in my opinion.

I think it varies by geographic regions. Everything you just said is probably what most people from that area would say. If you came to the South the majority of people would probably have a different opinion.

People outside of California, the Midwest and pockets of uncharted lands in the west dont give a damn about the Rose Bowl. It's a regional thing. None of the major bowls are bigger than the others. Before the BCS came along if you asked people 'round here what was the biggest bowl youd get Cotton Bowl every time. You ask people in Florida and your likely answer was/is the Orange. Lets compare revenue and profits generated from the UM football program to NU and Bama and see who is bigger. Its not even close.

the hell does this have to do with anything?

but if you are stupid enough to go this route....

1. Notre Dame

2. Texas

3. Georgia

4. Michigan

5. Florida

6. Ohio State

7. Alabama

8. Tennessee

9. Oklahoma

10. LSU

Notice who is not on there. Is Michigan a bigger job than USC? Probably not. Going the revenue and value route is dumb. So Georgia's the #3 job in America? Get a clue and come back to me plz. And Alabama is close and so is LSU.

You just named names to say who is bigger without any facts or rational. How did you base your belief that NU or Bama were bigger, on what basis? Wheres your Nebraska on this list? UM is worth $81M and Nebraska isnt even worth $50M. UM is worth $11M more than Bama maybe not a huge as i had originally thought but its 13% bigger. College football is a business and ONE way to judge bigger is by $.

How about viewership. When Bama or NU get ratings of UM that will be the day. Id wager the terrible ND/UM game will generate more viewers than #1USC/#14NU this weekend. And lets not even compare the national TV ratings of UM/OSU to Auburn/Bama. How bout you tell me how you judge bigger and get back to me.

Also i didnt say anything against LSU, go back and read a post of mine discussing LSU. IF it wasnt for Miles ties to UM and his contract i wouldnt even think its a worthwile move, its a lateral move.

those are forbes valuations on the the teams from last december. im not saying its the correct measurement. it is a regional thing as well. outside of little-ten-plus-michigan (1-AA)-land the michigan coach doesnt have aura attached to it.

in mil

97 Notre Dame

88 Texas

84 Georgia

81 Michigan

76 Florida

71 Ohio State

70 Alabama

69 Tennessee

67 Oklahoma

66 LSU

The Rose Bowl gets the prime TV spot every New Year's Day. The Rose Bowl Parade is nationally televised. Oklahoma and Texas both raved about getting to go to the Rose Bowl. It's the oldest, biggest and most prestigious bowl game.

Recent TV ratings (site didn't have last year):

2006: Rose Bowl: 21.7; NC Game: Rose Bowl; Next highest: Fiesta, 12.9

2005: Rose Bowl: 12.4; NC Game: 13.7 (Orange).

2004: Rose Bowl: 14.4; NC Game: 14.5 (Sugar).

2003: Rose Bowl: 11.3; NC Game: 17.2 (Fiesta).

From 1998 through 2006, the Rose Bowl is the highest rated game. It's had the top, and 6 of the top 12 highest rated games (twice as the NC game, whereas all the other bowls in the top-12 were NC games). The nation's college football watching TV viewers prefer the Rose Bowl to all other bowls. In fact, the Rose Bowl has often been competitive with the NC game in ratings. So I'd say that people give a darn about it across the country.

Actually its called latching on to the California market. Id like to see those broken down by people outside of the region. Of course people inside the region are going to care. thanks. im not saying its not the biggest. im saying that in general its not OMG I WANT SCARLETT JOHANSSON IN MY BED biggest. its pretty much equal to the sugar and orange. maybe not the fiesta but to the sugar and orange yes.

Well, you certainly seemed to say it wasn't the biggest in your original post. I don't know if it's Scarlett Johansson bigger, but it's definitely bigger. Regardless of where the viewers come from, it still gets the most viewers.

Edit: I'll also add that maybe it doesn't really even matter anymore, since all the BCS games payout the same. (Though it's still much easier for Michigan to get to the BCS out of the Big Ten than it is for LSU out of the SEC.) Of course, that fact alone may make Notre Dame the best job: it's easiest for them to get to the BCS, then they don't have to split the $17 million.

No. Youre saying its bigger across the nation when its not. Its bigger in its pockets. its equal to the Sugar and Orange. Ratings dont mean much. It just shows that its bigger in California. Wow!

Is it the Sugar Bowls fault people in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana can't afford TVs?! (Cheap shot!!!)

Pet peeve but it's the Rose Parade, not the Rose Bowl Parade. The parade came well before the bowl was even built.

Ha ha, nice cheap shot.

The Rose Bowl likely isn't bigger than the Cotton Bowl is in Texas or the Orange Bowl is in Florida or the Sugar Bowl is in Louisiana. However, the plurality, if not the majority, of the country considers the Rose Bowl the biggest. I am not saying the Rose Bowl is biggest in every region, but, overall, it is.

Michigan is in need of some flowers. They're certainly girly up the middle on defense.

Ah, true. My bad.

The Rose Bowl tends to get the most consistant draw of great tv drawing schools. Of course in 2006 that was the most anticipated NC game in a very long time, and was one of the greatest games ever.

Anyways to get back to the present future..

Andre Caldwell is out for the Tennessee game. The Gators have capable but inexperienced skill players to step in, but its still a blow. Expect some solid PT from true fish Deonte Thompson and more PT from soph Jarred Fayson as long as his knees alright. Both guys speed rivals Harvins and Caldwells.

2001 Purdue V Washington 14.0 rating. #9 all time BCS bowl rating.

2000 Wisky V Stanford 14.1 rating. #8 all time BCS bowl rating

I think these 2 games are very good testament on the reach of this bowl.

That is true, but what about them getting a consistant time slot on a day that is known for watching football all day where the others rotate around the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Seeing Stanford in a past BCS game is ammusing.

The others are in primetime with no competition. Now I'm not going to argue that a matchup of 2nd C-USA team vs. 1st Sun Belt team is going to draw much away, but I certainly don't see the time these games being on making a difference.

I've heard Les Miles may take the Michigan job if Carr is fired. I'd hate to see him leave LSU.

yes please

You might get what you need and want but what about the poor Tiger fans who seemed to be getting popped on for some reason? That seems like a sweet job and it just makes me wonder why people leave there so soon.

(If these rumors are true)

Bad luck is all. Saban is a douche and Michigan is the best job in the country outside of SC.

Hmm, maybe so. Best jobs in college football, yeah Michigan is in the top 5 no doubt about that. I'd put Texas, OSU, ND and Florida in there too.

I'm curious where you'd rank the PSU job. It hasnt' been available in 40+ years, so it's tough to gauge. Will top coaches be clamoring for it when JoePa finally retires?

I sure as heck wouldn't want that job after he leaves. The mans an icon.

Replacing a legend is hard. Usually the immediate successor isn't that successful. It would be like replacing Bear Bryant at Alabama, or in basketball replacing John Wooden at UCLA, Dean Smith at North Carolina, etc.

Actually it's the Tournament of Roses Parade, unless they officially changed the name within the past few years.

It was just listed as a sore knee in the campus paper this morning, he should be fine.
