If Sheets can help stabilize their pitching, Watch out. They still have a forminable lineup.

forminable ???

OK, how about better than the Cubs.

I'm not sure that is a word, actually but we get the point.

The Brewers are our toughest competition in the Central. Don't write them off.

The Cardinals disagree.

So do the Reds, but that doesn't mean we should take them seriously.

Not to jinx anything, but I am about 90% confident the Cubs will win this division.

The Cards are all smoke and mirrors and not serious contenders. The Brewers are it, and they cannot hold a lead. Their starting rotation sucks, their bullpen sucks. They will have to outslug every team they play. They are capeable of doing that but it's not likely to happen on a regular basis.

As long nobody gets hurt I expect the Cubs to win this crappy division by two or three games.

The Reds may be the hottest team in the division right now, but for them to even finish 83-79 (catch the Cubs playing .500 ball) they'd need to go 21-7 to finish out the season.

With the CUBS' luck, it could happen, no?

Then the Cardinals are dopes, cause the Brewers are way better than them.

You've asserted both that the Brewers are the toughest competition and that the Brewers are way better than the Cardinals.

I agree that the Brewers are way better, but the same anomaly that would transfer the 1984 Tigers into a 65-win team if they were Cubs that year is working against the Brewers and in favor of the Cardinals, so despite talent, runs, or any other logical measure, the Cardinals will still prove to be the toughest competition in the division.

Jayson Stark was right, unfortunately.

I really have no clue what you're talking about. You agree that the Brewers are way better than the Cardinals but for some reason believe in some mystical force that is going to force the Cardinals to win the division. There's no magic involved at baseball, the Cardinals have just been a well run franchise for many years. Right now (for this season) they have been a poorly run franchise and should have no chance at the postseason because they are a bad team. The Cubs and Brewers are not excellent teams, but they are above average, something the Cardinals cannot claim.

The Brewers have bailed enough water from the sinking ship to move back into first place.

They need to spring a fresh leak again soon.

I'm going to stand by my prediction as long as ST doesn't pitch.

Whoever wins this division will be the tallest midget though.

I'd agree with this post whole heartedly. This is Jocketty's worst year as GM even barring injuries (there was no need to give Carp a long contract). I'd also maintain that the Cards have sustained more injuries than any team in baseball (how impactful they are is debatable). The way the Cubs are allowing Cards fans just bleed to death is rather ruthless. Just put us out of our misery already!

Wow. 9-0 loss to the Pirates? Pathetic.

And, with Armas on the mound, too.

Really pathetic.

Tell your boys to have more games like this, Jake. Well, with the exception of the three games on 9/21 - 9/23, of course.

I think the Brewers are gonna win this thing. It's not like we didn't have chances though. The Cubs don't seem quite good enough to win even this lousy division. Just glad the Cards won't win it I guess.
