What are you guys basing the "Ankiel cocaine" jokes on? I've never once heard that he had cocaine problems?

Are you confusing him with Hamilton?

I know Rick's father had problems with drugs, but I've never heard about Ankiel himself having drug problems.

^^

Bump?

I asked this question in this thread and got the following response:

It's an open secret Ankiel enjoyed the stuff. I'm not sure if it was a huge problem.

Ah yes. Message Boards: The cornerstone of accuracy.

I'm pretty sure a Cardinal fan isn't going to say a player on his own team of doing something if he didn't actually believe it. If you want to find out how CFICT knows, ask a question in that thread or send him a PM. But there is no reason not to believe him.

by that reasoning, I should have gone out and bought a Griffey Cubs jersey in mid june. It's a message board, rumors get started/exaggerated/spread all the time, particularly if they're used humorously. It's more like a joke that Ankiel did cocaine, it seems like. And anyone having doubts about it, wanting to know the real story should certainly ask. It's a downright immature thing to accuse someone of if it's not true -- but I wouldn't put it past some people.

lol did illiniguy just work in a reference to dying kids with cancer?

Yeah it may have been a poor one, but I tried to get across a point. Pujols may have been telling the truth, but it doesn't make him less of a jerk.

The opinion is a matter of bias. In terms of human character, two incidents in which he criticizes the nature of an award within his profession and the skill of an opponent he just faced says much less about someone than one of the game's premier superstars having a reputation for being courteous and welcoming to its fans.

He's a Cardinal, and he has enjoyed much success against the Cubs this weekend.

That's why I hate him, and that's why you think his opinions make him a jerk.

My brother is a huge Cardinals fan and he thinks he is jerk as well. He cringes everytime they interview him. Oh and my favorite player in all of baseball is Miguel Cabrera who killed us in '03, so it isn't just cause he does well against us. Edited by illiniguy

Doing a google search for "Ankiel" and "cocaine" this is the only thing I found

No longer does he have to lie to himself, or tell friends that his dad was a fisherman or self-employed as a drywall specialist. Richard Patrick Ankiel is actually serving six years in federal prison for drug smuggling.

He doesn't have to make excuses for his half-brother, Phillip Kennedy, 26, who has been arrested 28 times in six years on charges ranging from cocaine possession to rape to burglary. Currently, he is serving seven years in prison for drug smuggling.

He has obviously been exposed to cocaine, but there is no proof here that he ever did coke.

No. It's all black and white, and Red is the devil's color.

How did Wood look? Last time out he looked great, but in Colorado he looked bad. Maybe it was the altitude after all.

they were first pitch swinging but his fast ball looks great mid 90's and under control

That's great to hear...after Colorado I was very very worried...

Has Dr. Felix looked at Soriano's leg recently? I really can't wait much longer to get him back in this lineup....(with the understanding that Murton moves to RF when he comes back)

He hasn't even started running yet. Taking batting practice, but no running.
