I didn't think so either, but I'd be happy to switch to the McSkullet rules in this case. Call Selig.

The only way they would have to continue the game is IF it were official and IF the Cards had went ahead in the last half-inning to take the lead in a tie-game. This was not the case. The Cards scored in the top of the 6th, the Cubs got their chance in the bottom of the inning and didn't convert. If the game ended, the Cards would win 5-4; the Ankiel event would be washed out (pun intended).

Hypothetical scenario of the new rules:

In the 6th inning, the teams are tied 6-6. Cards go ahead in the top of the 6th. Game is delayed going to the bottom of the 6th. With the Cards now up 7-6, the Cubs would need a chance to match.

If the game was tied and the Cardinals scored in the top half of the 7th to take the lead, then the game would not be over. But since they already had the lead going into the inning, they would win if the game would be called.

While this is correct, this is a really stupid rule. The game shouldn't count unless it is completed.

There's an example of a game shortened by rain this year.

That's different. The home team (the Mets) was winning and the visiting team (the Cardinals) got an extra at-bat.

Yes, I agree.

Stupid things happen in baseball, though. For example, do you think it was cool, as a Cards fan, to see Duncan have to continue an at-bat after a two-hour delay with two strikes against a new pitcher?

What so in five minutes you could make that decision? I know he has done nothing but be an ass the last few years in the media. Like crying about Howard winning the MVP last year because he didn't make the playoffs. No you are right Albert he had to play in a real division. Or when asked about his ex teammate Marquis pitching well against him, he threw Marquis under the bus and said he wasn't all that good. The guy is a jerk.
In fairness to him, the MVP argument is a pretty divided one, and he voiced his opinion, which was biased in his own favor. What a jerk.

He also said Marquis isn't that good, which obviously has absolutely no ring of truth to it whatsoever. Again, what a jerk. These opinions were both on matters directly related to him. I'd say the pleasant five minute conversation with a stranger and 15 minutes of autographs for fans, regardless of their loyalty, says a lot more about him than those expressed opinions.

In fairness to him he could have tipped his cap to both guys, you know like a professional. You really think that is how DLee would have answered either of those questions?

He's one of the top three hitters in the game, and the media hounds him for his opinions. He's not terribly outspoken (a la Sheffield or Artest), but if his give a [hoot] factor is low, he speaks the truth. Yes, he's not the solid professional that Lee is, but he simply expresses his opinions about his own profession. We've all got those opinions, and we all know what opinions are like, and everyone's entitled to not like him for it. I just think those reasons are pretty weak.

Why not? You can switch pitchers in the middle of an at-bat.

It makes him a jerk. Much like a person who would say about a kid with cancer, who care he is going to die soon anyways. While it may in fact be true, it is a jerk thing to say.

And I think the Cards could have brought in a new hitter if they so wanted.

lol did illiniguy just work in a reference to dying kids with cancer?

Yeah it may have been a poor one, but I tried to get across a point. Pujols may have been telling the truth, but it doesn't make him less of a jerk.

What's your point? Do you think there was an ice cube's chance in hell that Piniella would have went to Pignatiello had there not been a rain delay (eg: randomly during the at-bat)? No, there wasn't.

The point was that the rain delay yesterday favored the Cubs big-time.

I'm not saying this game ending early is completely equal to Duncan having to come in with two strikes (it's not really close, even), but the point is that sometimes you benefit from rain delays, sometimes you don't.
