Apparently the Cubs agree with UK/Ping Hitter as a couple of the college kids are headed up (granted they are being replaced by a couple of college kids, but Rosa is a raw JC kid). 3B Marquez Smith and OF Ty Wright to Peoria, OF Brandon Guyer and 3B Jovan Rosa to Boise.

Jovan Rosa was second in the AZL in hitting, 6th in OPS. He was posting a line of .353/.399/.485/.884.

I'm glad Wright's getting the bump to Peoria! He's been the most consistent hitter on the Boise squad this year. Wyatt has come on strong, but Wright has been so consistent all year long. He's proven he can hit, hit with power, and be patient at the plate! Good luck Ty Wright!

No love for Marquez he went 4 for 4 last night and is in the Top 10 in runs batted in the NWL.

No no no, don't read into my post like that. He's been a great producer as well. I just think Wright has been the overall most valuable player for Boise this year. The lineup is littered with guys who have contributed, and Wright AND Smith deserve their credit!

Interesting news. Ping gets the ITYS!

Both of these guys are certainly qualified for the promotion. Smith has been quite productive, really. A couple fewer K's, a couple extra HR's, and his numbers would look even better. .381 OBP, he's a walk machine (37 walks in 193 AB), not many Cubs who walk at 20% rate.

Hardman has not done much for Peoria, so wright could fit right in in LF. I really hope Smith and Wright do well in their 2-3 weeks plus hopefully playoffs for Peoria.

As 4th year seniors with lots of college experience and from high-profile college programs, I'd think both are excellent candidates to skip straight to Daytona next year, along with Wyatt. (Wyatt also deserves promotion, but I imagine Boise needs him and promotion would provide a conflict with Leon Johnson.) If Wright and Smith get killed at Peoria (unlikely), that might work against Daytona for them next April. But if they carry their hitting right along at Peoria, that would further support their odds of going straight to Daytona next spring.

I had rationalized that a promotion for these guys didn't matter much, they wouldn't develop any differently, and their chance of skipping to Daytona likely wouldn't depend on two weeks in Peoria this month. So I didn't think it was any big deal that they weren't getting promoted. But I certainly have zero problem that they did. I like it.

I do think it's odd that they waited so late. I've gotta think there is a little adjustment time normally with any move. I'd have thought they might go up a week or more sooner, and give them a longer stretch at Peoria to get a more meaningful sample size there.

I'm just glad it wasn't Dylan Johnston.

Just wait til next year. :)

I think the 3B competition next season at Peoria will be very interesting. If Marquez Smith can get to Daytona next season (and play with Josh Lansford), that'd make things much easier. It sounds like the Cubs plan on playing Vitters at Boise to end this season so Peoria would be the natural next step. Jovan Rosa is more advanced than Vitters and is a significant prospect (he was signed for the equivalent of top 5 round money) and would be ready for Peoria too.

Bite your toungue Raisin!

It's exciting thing thinking about who might be coming our way next year. On the other hand, I thought for sure we'd get to see Tyler Colvin for a bit in Peoria this year, and no such luck. I generally try and squelch my excitement for next year until Spring Training and see who's working with who.

I can't remember when rosters freeze for the minor's playoff runs...it looks like the Chiefs might make it, and I can never remember when the cutoff is. I think it's coming up, though.

why, your seats are behind first base and you fear for your life if dylan johnston is playing short?

seats are behind the plate (and therefore the netting) and I still fear for my life when Dylan's playing short. I hope the organization figures out what they want to do with him. The 18 errors in Peoria with another 24 in Boise, despite the attention coaches have been paying him makes me think that they need to convert him to another position or get rid of him.

I like that the guy can't hit the first baseman if he rolls the ball to him, and everyone wants to make him a pitcher.

That should be a fun transition.

I also irrationally hate certain 21-year old Dominican kids on the basis of 11 appearances.

Theres never any hatred. But he gave us no chance to win and get in the playoffs and thats what we are playing for. He was way overmatched at this level and always "hurt"

The only thing they are playing for is possibly developing into future major league baseball players. Getting Peoria to the playoffs is pretty meaningless.

Sure, but for me and the Chiefs staff, its the exact opposite. Their development is good for us if they turn into a Pujols, Maddux, Grace, Patterson etc and we can market off that in the future. We'd rather have them go 140-0 and put butts in the seats here in 2007...

plus, Alburquerque is never gonna develop past this level...id be kinda surprised to even see him back here anytime soon.

Your post makes no sense at all. You can't possibly believe that minor league players don't want to win, and make it to the playoffs at every level?

This conversation has nothing to do with what the players want. It's about the organization and whether they're more interested in developing players or making the playoffs in the minors.

And even if we were talking about the players, I can't imagine a single one of them that wouldn't rather make the big leagues than play in the minor league playoffs.
