IIRC, Will Caroll said that he is NOT on time for returning, and that it could be longer.

Did Carroll say that before or after Sheets's most recent bullpen session?

Ah, you are correct. Here is the most recent tidbit.

Sheets made a big step on Tuesday, throwing a bullpen session without protective tape on his finger. Sheets made it through the session without problem, throwing at "workout speeds," which sounds like 75-80 percent, and mixing in some curves. If there's no post-session soreness, Sheets should be on track for a rehab start sometime in the next ten days, which puts him back in The Show at the start of September. Whether he makes four or five starts could be a big deal, but whether those are healthy starts is the core concern.

Sheets has the softest skin evar!

Per rotoworld:

Ben Sheets, on the DL with a sprained finger, developed a blister in the sixth inning of his simulated game Monday, leaving his status uncertain.

"A little blister popped up," Sheets said. "It didn't hurt. It just popped up." Sheets threw well for five innings, and the length of the outing (assuming 15 pitches per inning) suggests that the Brewers were strongly considering activating him this weekend. Now he's probably going to remain on the DL into September. Fortunately, the blister was caught early. Perhaps he won't miss too much more time. Aug. 20 - 5:58 pm et

Everything was going fine for Brewers right-hander Ben Sheets during his simulated game this afternoon -- until the sixth inning, that is.

Sheets cut short what was a promising session when a small blister popped up on the middle finger of his pitching hand. The problem was not thought to be related to the tissue damage in that finger that landed the team ace on the disabled list on July 15.

What effect the blister will have on attempts to get Sheets back on the active roster remains to be seen. The clubhouse does not open until 5:10 (CDT) so we'll have to wait to interview Sheets and manager Ned Yost.

"A little blister popped up," Sheets told pitching coach Mike Maddux after cutting off the session. "It didn't hurt. It just popped up."
