I saw Derwood's post about hall of fame for posts, and not person, so I thought to myself, why not propose that NSBB should have a Hall of Fame for members?

The quote below is open to suggestions/changes/modifications,etc.

In order to be eligible for the Hall of Fame, you must have been a member here for at least 3 years, and have at least 2000 posts on NSBB.com. Any member meeting these criteria is eligible, but another member must nominate you. Any member may nominate any other member, but inductees will be chosen from the pool of nominated members by a selection committee chaired by Admins/Mods and 2 Premium members.

Each member may nominate only one other member a year. Selection committee members may not nominate anyone; the "guest" committee members chosen annually may not nominate anyone for the year they serve on the committee. Committee members are not eligible to be elected in the year in which they serve on the committee.

3-5 members will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame annually. Nominations will begin the weekend following (Insert date), and end approximately two weeks before (Insert Date.) Selections will be announced on the (Insert Date.) Like MLB Hall of Fame, not everyone can get in the first time they are nominated, but that does not mean they won't be enshrined at some point, so please feel free to nominate members in consecutive years. Nominations must include a detailed write-up of the member's specific contributions to the well-being of the site, much like the Pro Hall of Fame presentations given to their selection committee.

Please remember that this honor is very difficult to achieve, but it is intended to be fun. As such, please keep all comments and questions positive as pertaining to both the process and the enshrinees.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Yeah, why not. I mean I guess the best poster tournament wasn't enough of a joke. Might as well add to it. At one point this place wasn't a popularity contest.

Yeah, I think this place is intimidating enough for newcomers without worrying about poster hall of fames.

While it sounds nice and well-thought out, I really don't see the need for it.

It could be a fun idea, but I think it also has potential to be divisive. It would probably do more harm than the fun or honor it would provide for others.

Poster of the Week became divisive enough on cubs.com a few years ago. I don't think a Hall of Fame for message board posters is a very good idea.

Besides, you have to be retired five years to be eligible for the Hall, so nobody here even qualifies yet. :D

The moderators already get plenty of accusations of being biased based on post count. This would just be another source of consternation.

If Pete Rose joined NSBB and made 2000 post would he be eligible?

no, because he will probably have engaged in a variety of acts which have stained the the message board, and he will have to live with the consequences of those acts.

But the message board will reconsider his eligibility in the year after he passes away.

Hmm, I raised similar qualms during the "Best Poster" tournament thing, even making the comparison to the old POTW garbage from Cubs.com and complaining about possible bias based on post counts. The response I received in that thread amounted to an insult and being ignored.

Glad to see by this thread that I'm not alone in some of these aspects.

and 1-2 months later, the best poster tournament is practically forgotten about and not discussed, and no one really cared while it was happening.

a hall of fame won't be forgotten though, it's a bad idea. there's a difference.

Generally I agree, except that I do see a few mentions of Vance being the "top poster"...

FWIW, the top-poster Tourney was SUPPOSED to be tongue in cheek and not at all to be taken seriously. I love that people at desipio actually thought we took it seriously at all
