I don't think I am known as someone who does the "chicken little" thing around here, but the lack of offense over the last few days officially has me very concerned. It's starting to look like the beginning of the season when Lou was playing with the lineup each day hoping something would work. This is most disconcerting in light of the fact that the pitching has been good and the Brewers have been equally as bad lately (thus we have blown a golden opportunity to go up on them by a couple of games).

Just venting my concern.

The only hope I have(and its pretty small) is Lou last night in his PC said hes concerned with the offense as well, and maybe this was a subtle hint for Hendry to go get a big bat somehow thru waivers.

This offense reminds me of some 1870's townball team.

it reminds me of when they had high school tournament games in Veterans Stadium, but since the kids are generally not filled out yet, no balls ever went close to being home runs.

When the Cubs go in stretches like this i wonder if they will ever win again. The Cubs will break out but i hope its not too late and they arent too far behind.

Thank god the Brewers are losing games too.

Woody had already been pitching a few years when those guys showed up.

I think the Cubs should just scoring like soccer, with 10 minute celebrations everytime they score a run with Pat screaming "GOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLL" in the background.

It's hard to blame Soriano's injury either, since he hadn't been hitting for a while before he went down.

It's a bad offense put together by a bad GM. It's been a bad offense throughout hit time with the Cubs. At it's peak, it's been average.

That's what happens when your front office ignores the changing of the guard.

Imagine being told a year ago today that the Cubs were in second place, a game behind a team that has its own share of flaws... It's august 8th, friends, let's be happy that we're contending at all -- this doesn't happen every year.

We have plenty of flaws, sure, and don't stop criticizing or getting frustrated. Just remember two things,

1) we're in a good position, and

2) this team we have right now put us there.

I cannot for a second support this "It's better than what we've seen in the past so let's just be happy" mindset. I couldn't support the "back to back .500 seasons was awesome" mindset either.

what are they about 0-22 with RISP this series? That's all that has changed.

I can't agree with this stance either. All it's doing is setting us up for a big letdown in September or October. This team is not constructed well enough to get past the Mets, Phillies or the Padres if they should meet in the playoffs.

The Cubs are not a very good team, its the simple truth. The Brewers aren't very good either. I think both of those teams would struggle to be .500 in the West or East, but they are in the central so one of them will win the division. Its pretty much up in the air which one does as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure what you mean. I was posing a perspective: that we're in a good position at this point in the year. The fact that this situation is uncommon for us cubs fans, I understand, won't be shared by all. But why not live in the moment? I think you try and look at the big, pessimistic picture too often (I'm thinking of the JJ comments in the other thread). Right now things are okay and we would enjoy the season if we embraced that Okay-ness, IMO.

How are we set up to be letdown? If anything, a more negative view is setting you up to never enjoy the season, if you think they're not good now, and aren't likely to make the playoffs. Again, embrace the positive -- not only is it more logical, but I think it's more fun :)

I'm surprised by the reaction to my comments. Why are we even Cubs fans, guys? Why even follow a team if you can't get caught up in the (positive) excitement of a pennant chase?
