that's awesome. 2 games back from the brew crew, and 1 game back in the wildcard right? It's just so great to actually be competitive and have something to root foor. I'm watching the cubs last night dismantle a bad cardinals teams, and i watched every pitch. I love to see us on the correct end of a butt whooping in Busch.

Game and a half, now. Hopefully we can make it just one lone game by the end of tonight.

1/2 game back in wild card.....we could be in the wild card lead at the end of the night!

Actually 1.5 behind the Brew Crew and .5 behind SD for the Wild Card.

Wow.

I've been so concerned with catching Milwaukee I hadn't even considered the Mets. But that's pretty freakin' amazing.

Very cool, I really think we can take the Brew Crew, especially with them losing sheets. We'll see though, they are a young team and we have to keep it up. Its nice to have good feelings again about the cubs.

Despite the end of 2003, it was such a fun year, its just so nice for the games to matter! :)

Tied for the WC in the loss column!

And also tied for the division in the loss column.

Me too. The Brewers can't even beat the Reds (losing 3 of 4). They're ripe for the picking.

The Brewers are folding, and Milwaukee is panicking (the fans, anyway).

I live up here now, and they are pissed.

I love it. Take from the poor on their best day!

In one of my fantasy leagues one of the managers is a big Brewers fan. I definitely feel a sense of doom on their part. 2007 Brewers = 1969 Cubs, except they started their decline earlier (and unlike the 1969 Cubs they have the Wild Card to fall back on).

(Edited to spell "Brewers" correctly)

Damn, all this excitement is scaring me. I'm about thisclose to going all in with confidence about this team.

Holy crap, optimism from goony.

Honestly, I've never seen the Cubs do anything like this. I've seen the opposite a few times - starting out white hot and then blowing it.

When's the last time the Cubs overcame an 8.5 game lead?

This is unreal. They're charging harder than anybody. Wow.

BTW, with Milwaukee losing today, the Cubs technically are now in control of their own destinies, despite being a game out of first.

I've been pretty damn optimistic for a while now. Seeing the rest of the league come back to the pack helped. I've got a bet with a friend about the spread between Mets and Cubs wins, and I'm in the money, and heckling. Pretty much everybody I know either asks how they are doing or offer up a "the Cubs are looking good, huh" comment. I'm not used to that.

This makes next week's series with the Mets even bigger than it may have looked before.

Just illustrates the lack of a dominant team in the National League. With so many teams so tightly bunched for the overall best record as well as the wild card, the trading deadline takes on added significance. Who will make the bold move and add an impact pitcher or hitter? With this trade market, some team is going to grossly overpay for a Jon Garland or Ken Griffey type.

I said about a week ago that winning the division has become even more important now because it could mean home field advantage in the NL rather than just maybe having home field in the first round.
