So as of right now, the Church deal is not official and still in rumor status?

Correct.

yep, far as I know.

That's true, but the Cubs don't really have anything to fill RF with either. I think an outfield of Soriano-Church-Murton would be our best bet. If it came down to it, I'd probably give up Murton since he won't get a shot in Chicago anyway, but it'd be best if they could get Church and keep Murton to platoon with Floyd.

Maybe Hendry can convince Bowden to take Pagan or Jones instead. :pint:

Pagan and a mid-level prospect wouldn't really surprise me.

PECOTA probably assumes Murton would, you know, get to play, given his .800 OPS last year.

I like Church, but the numbers are so similar, that I'd much rather have the guy that's 3 years younger. We have a CF for the future (Pie).

sounds good to me, but wouldn't that be really easy for another team to block? Church can't be making that much money.

Levine on 1000 said the Cubs stood pat but will push hard to acquire Church through waivers.

He's a productive CF who's making only $400,000 this year. There's no way he makes it through waivers to us.

That sounds kinda dumb. Washington was not in the playoff picture so why could they not get a deal done now. I have no faith that if Hendry could not get a deal done now he wont in the next few weeks as well.

Maybe Washington was being ridiculous with their requests?

That is the most likely scenario.

Ya I would soppose that would be the most likely situation. But I don't see a few weeks changing anything. Especially since teams could easiely block this trade from happening.

I always thought it went by your record last season, which would make the Cubs get first dibs. But, current record would make more sense.

In which case, it'd be best to pick him up before we pass MIL.

Does anyone know the order of the NL waiver wire? Or does it go by current record, therefore changing daily?

I thought it changed by current record. If an Al team puts a player on waiver the current worst team in the NL gets first dibs then so on and visa versa. I could be wrong but that is how I always thought it went.

Current record.

Just watch - we'll get a report from Bruce Miles that Hendry and his cronies thought it was by last season's record.

D'oh!

Great. If the Cubs acquire Church, we can all look forward to articles about how Church will turn his attitude around and finally realize his potential in a new environment. Love that a player is defined by his OPS and not what he brings to the table as a member of a clubhouse.

Perhaps the local media can get a family package deal on stories about how members of the Church family weren't ever given a fair shake if and when Staggs gets cut from the Bears.

It is painful enough having to watch Church routinely and consistently disappoint his defenders at RFK. I have no desire to see him anywhere near the Cubs franchise.
