...babbling idiot. His opinion on Barry Bonds breaking the record at home being a must "for the good of baseball" is completely .....well, you can fill that in.

For the good of baseball? Barry Bonds? Please.

Thoughts?

I find myself calling Steve Phillips a moron on a frequent basis. It's not just the Bonds thing, he is usually a bonehead on most issues.

That said, I would move this to rants :D

I say it over and over again, but I'm surprised that people even watch BBTN. It's a terrible show with terrible "analysts". It's not even worth watching for the highlights anymore.

Who's the player in your avatar? I don' think I have ever seen him before.

I was actually proud of Karl Ravich today. They were going over guys that may or may not get into the HOF, and Kruk and Phillips said that Bonds, Sosa, and other questionable stars will no doubt be in.

Almost seems like they were speaking in favor of these guys out of fear of being shunned by the baseball world, while Ravich called it like he (and the entire world) saw it - these guys are suspect and look at how well Mark McGwire did in his first opportunity to get voted in.

That's why I think they need to get some quality analysts, not some MLB Player's Union lapdogs.

It's Sam Fuld - one of the most underrated players in the Cub minor league organization, in my opinion. He's quietly having another outstanding season - this year with the Smokies.

I like him because he's a marvelous baseball player - but also because he's got a good head on his shoulders. Not everyone can get an Econ degree from Stanford, and he managed to do so while playing for one of the most competitive college baseball teams at the time. He's also got juvenille diabetes, and it continues to amaze me how consistent he is despite this.

Unless they actually come out with public proof that he used steroids there is no way Bonds doesn't make it. McGwire is going to take most of the heat as the first big name to be voted on. Sosa might fall short because he has the whole corked bat thing going against him too, but I bet he makes it.

Steve Phillips is terrible though, he also contradicts himself all the time and generally just babbles complete nonsense.

There are pitchers in the HOF that admitted to throwing spit balls. There are probably at least 5 guys in the HOF that used ampetamins. The question is not whether Bonds took steroids, he did, the question is do you really care/ does that negate the HOF resume he already had before he broke the HR record?

My guess is that the guys from the 70s (like a certain ESPN "Analyst" who is quick to remind everyone that he is the HOF) aren't going to keep Bonds out because if they had steroids in the 70s players would have used them and they know it.

Before the Monday Cubs/Giants game on ESPN Phillips was going on and on about how Bud Selig should MAKE Bonds sit out until he hits 756 at home. Seriously.

I remember that. Phillips is such a joke.

That is basically what he was saying on BBTN as well. Suggested that Bonds should not play on the road in order to be sure he hits the HR #756 in San Francisco.

Kruk says it won't matter because the fans in Chicago were ripping Bonds hard, but cheered for him when he hit the two HR's earlier this week.

Just play ball.

Listening to Rob Dibble on his show in the afternoons is a hoot when he starts in on the four letter network. He basicly echos comments from here that they really dont know there is baseball outside of New York and Boston. In production meetings they are told what position they will take. How it will be presented, and what the arguement will be about.

Called them Jabrones one day. I laughed so hard when he did that.

That said Steve Phillips is the posterboy for idiots inc.

I used to love listening to Dibble and Kennedy until they started taking basically the same stance as Phillips, Kruk, Joe Morgan, etc.

All of these guys seem to take the "innocent until proven guilty" stance. Don't get me wrong - that is the American way, but come on - we are not idiots and we know that these guys have everything to lose if they buck the system (example: Curt Flood, Lenny Dykstra, Jose Canseco).

That is why I give respect to Karl Ravich for stating the obvious, despite what the lapdogs are spewing.

If Rob Dibble was so smart he wouldn't be an idiot.

'For the good of baseball'? Really? Or is it for the good of a bullcrap P.R. show that SportsCenter can show over & over again? If there are boos, remember, they can't get mileage out of the record "breaking" moment because it'll just remind everyone of what's really going on.

So, Phillips' grand idea is to force everyone's head into the sand so we can all pretend what Bonds is doing is legitimate. Hooray for willful ignorance!

In all of this, let's not forget Barry Bonds signed a contract with ESPN to air a reality show a couple years back. He's an ESPN employee.

That's a good point, one that makes ESPN's (albeit quite entertaining) ad campain seem pretty ironic. The players work in the ESPN office... they're all "employees" :)

To be fair, they are about a billion percent right on that point.

I can't remember, but I think they were talking "first ballot." They probably are right, but they are lapdogs nonetheless.

They need to stop showing Kruk on those Nutrisystem commercials. He's gained all the weight back, and then some...

And to be fair, they weren't asking Kruk and Phillips if they WILL get in on the first ballot, they were asking if they SHOULD get in on the first ballot. I think those are two very different questions.

I was more annoyed that there was ZERO discussion of Jeter, it was just "He's in...sure thing"...maybe so, but lets at least talk about it if that's the point of the segment.
