Big day for Izturis....

 

This usually happens when people whine about the lineup.

 

If Izturis had a big day every time we bitched about him being in the lineup he'd be batting .600

 

Yeah, oh well.

 

I just sit back and enjoy the bitch sessions that ensue. He's on the team, its inevitable he is going to start every now and then.

 

I particularly love the "Cubs are guaranteed to lose" posts that usually follow.

ehh in my lifetime I've seen the Bulls win 6 championships and the Bears get to another SB. How can we also forget about the Fire's glory days and the Rush last season :lol: When I get down about the Cubs, pop in that Bulls 90s DVD and all is good! Seriously, I'm grateful to have seen one championship from my city which is alot better than alot of other cities can say.

I'm not going to get too upset about it yet. I think this is Jock's last chance. If Lee can get some power back, and Ramirez, Soriano, DeRosa keep playing well, Jones will have a chance to be a productive player at the bottom of the lineup.

 

He's not as bad as he's been. If he snaps out of it with some regular playing time I have no problem with him hitting 7th.

I can understand putting Jones and Bowen in there since Oswalt is so tough against lefties. I don't understand why Fontenot is on the bench with Izzy getting the start. DeRosa should be at SS and Fontenot at 2b batting 2nd. Izzy should be ironing jerseys in the clubhouse.

I agree. He doesn't even have to return to last year's form to be a decent 7 hitter IMO, he just needs to get closer than he's been. He won't be this awful all year, and knowing Lou, if he stays awful, his playing time will be shortlived anyway. If the first half of the order does halfway decent, the Cubs will be fine today.

If my math is right, against right-handers, Theriot reaches base about once every six games more than Izturis.

 

The notion that this team is dramatically worse with Izturis at SS instead of Theriot is hyperbolic nonsense. Yet, no one ever complains about Theriot hitting second.

Theriot isn't lighting the world on fire, but he's not an automatic out like Izturis. You still gotta give Theriot a day off from time to time though, we've seen what happens when he starts getting tired. Too bad Cedeno can't be the one to step in instead of Cesar.

Seems like a reasonable conclusion to me.

 

Except that it takes catchers longer to develop usually, and nothing in Bowens major league career shows he is anything more than a backup, where as Sotos year this year could mean he has found it. It wont take much for Soto to be better than Bowen.
