Call me an idiot if you want, but hear me out. Sure I'd obviously rather not see Izturis out there, but as I said earlier, it is inevitable that he is going to start every now and then.

 

Taking today's lineup into consideration I would rather have Izturs hitting 2nd, surrounded by Soriano and Lee compared to having a 6-7-8-9 of Jones, Bowen, Izturis, and Lilly.

 

Today is as good as day as any to put Izturis in for Theriot with Oswalt on the mound.

 

I have to argue that today, you need all the offense you can get. If there was ever a day to put Fontenot at SS and in the 2nd spot; today is the day. While SS isn't his natural position, he can play it. Ted Lilly is an extreme fly ball pitcher.

 

The Cubs need baserunners today. Izturis could prove me wrong and go out and put up a 3-5, but that's much more likely with Mike Fontenot in the lineup.

He probably can.

 

But looking at their identical minor league OPS, it's entirely reasonable to think that they're pretty comparable players.

 

Rob Bowen: Born February 24, 1981

Geovany Soto: Born January 20, 1983

 

Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first year Bowen hasn't spent any portion of time in the minors.

I see your point, but I think we are overestimating how adequate Fontenot would be at SS.
