I still fail to see how it would be bad from MLB's point of view.

MLB hated that we spent as much money as we did last offseason.

They know that cuban would continue to spend in order to win.

MLB wont have that (unless you're the yankees or redsox)

The best thing for MLB would be for the Cubs to win a title.

Honestly.

Could you imagine what kind of attention that would draw the game?

Of course, mlb doesn't care. they're too busy taking down video highlights off youtube.

They also hated that we spent buttloads of money on marginal draft prospects to buy them away from college. That might've pissed them off even worse.

Just look at how much attention it brought MLB in 2003 when the Cubs and Red Sox each made their respective LCS's.

And how many of those people didn't hang around to watch the Yankees and Marlins.

Dear Santa,

All I want for Christmas is Mark Cuban to own the Cubs. Forget what I said about feeding the starving children. Just make this happen.

Your's,

BTW, I see you're in Iowa City...truly god's country!! U of I is my law school alma mater... I miss that town.

Sorry Middle East, you all will have to hang on for another year.

At least you know for certain that the MLB isn't fixed, because if it was they gave up a goldmine.

i think there is some hope that comes with this. Cuban is a very determined guy that I don't think will be content with a denial by the mlb when he has the highest bid.

If Wagner is involved as well with the bid, there's going to be no easy way for MLB to deny them.

And the Cuban/Wagner assets (entertainment and online media holdings) would be a lot more attractive to integrate into the Tribune than what other ownership groups offer.

The mere fact that we're resigned to the fact that MLB would not give Cuban a fair shake is reason enough for Congress to modify MLB's anti-trust exemption.

The owner should be chosen based on the best interests of the team, not because the owners are scared of controversey.

Excellent news. Hopefully, he's given a fair shake. I'd love to see Maverick Mark buy the team.

Does anyone really believe Cuban stands a chance in h*ll? I wish he had a fair shot, but am highly dubious of the the old boys club headed by Selig..

No chace in hell will he ever own a MLB team. Will never ever happen.

If Marge Schott had a team for so long they can learn to live with Mark Cuban.

Which is why baseball wouldn't allow it. They went through hell with Marge and they aren't going to let it happen again. I think it would be great for the game, but the custy old-school owners wouldn't like him.

I'd be real interested to see the tenures for current MLB franchise owners.

This is the best I got:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_principal_owners

EDIT: Wow! Steinbrenner paid only $8.7 million for the Yankees...nice return on investment!

Thanks.

So out of the crusty old owners, a dozen of them are new since 2000, and only 5(including the Tribune) have had their teams since the 80's.

Of the owners that would vote no, you have to think that Reinsdorf would be leading the charge. Who else would say no?

Honestly, I'd never heard of half of those owners...

Who's this "Nintendo" person? :D
