I like to stay very stats oriented these days, and look at the team with the cool demeanor of an accountant going through the financials of a minor client.

This is impossible to let go, however. Rich Hill has crapped on our season because he doesn't have his crap together for the first meaningful game we're playing since about three years ago. Now we have to waste the bullpen in the first game, and it just goes downhill from here.

Thanks alot, Rich. Nice to see that you can still ruin all your potential by not having control of your emotions. You are weak and unprofessional.

Commence swinging for the fence at everything, boys.

LMAO, wow, the game threads are hilarious

I'm loving all the "season is over" posts. You can always rely on this place for some decent comedy.

I don't think the season is over....but this game is.

Maybe, but the Cubs still have 8 innings left. Its not out of the question.

I'm in class all day today, except for 2-3pm central time... I'm going to keep gameday on the computer and a headphone in the ear.

"WHOOOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!

.... learning sure is fun...."

Class?? Isn't it summer vacation?

I'm in the AF, and I've been in class for 45 consecutive weeks, with the exception of two weeks for Christmas. I was able to sneak listening during the last hour, and that's a decision I seriously regret now.

and to think some people think Rich is more of an all star than Z.

he is.

were you saying this back in april when zambrano sucked?

for crying out loud they both have sucked this year at times. Zambrano earlier, Hill today.

Normally I don't throw in the towel after the first inning, but given how meekly the team seems to react to getting punched in the mouth (especially when it counts), metaphorically speaking, I don't have much hope for this one.

What did they look like on TV? dejected? Trying to talk?

No, they did look like anything in particular on the tube. I'm just going on previous situations.

That's a terrible first pitch swing by Lee. You've never seen this guy before, the first 2 guys go down meekly, and you're coming off a marathon top half of the inning. Take a strike.

Opponents are hitting .333 off the Rook on first pitches. Probably just reacting to the scouting report.

Lee would make an awesome, AWESOME #2 hitter at this point. I'm still hoping his HR power comes back...but when? He can still hit, but that #3 mashing doesn't seem to be there.

I'm not laying it all on Hill. Len's right...the entire Brewer lineup has gone deep in the count every AB. Obviously Hill isn't on either, because he's not getting any swings and misses, but give some credit to Milwaukee. These guys are gonna be good for quite a while...I wish I were a Brewer fan right about now.

Yes, because one month is just that. Z has what, 70 wins in his career more than Hill? Oh and he is younger to boot. At no point in his career will Rich HIll be a better pitcher than Z. Here in about another month this season won't even be close.

Everyone hits better on the first pitch. That doesn't mean everyone should swing at the first strike they see, especially considering the situation.

and looking at the first half as a whole, hill has been better.

Typical Cubs. 1st inning of the first game and the series and season is over.

WOW....

Marquis's going Sunday, you think that'll turn out well?

i definitely dont think the season is over

Well, if we lose the series, we're 8 1/2 out. If we get swept, that's 10 1/2. I don't see us making up that kind of deficit, unless we catch the spirit of the 2004-05 Astros.

Mine had "abandon all hope" and a little smiley face. It also taught me the Chinese symbol for choke.

guess the second half of last year doesn't count either?

HBP on a batter that didn't try to move

The ball came right at his back and was coming at about 62 mph tops. There's no reason he should move.

except for the umpire isn't supposed to award a batter the base if he makes no effort to avoid the pitch.

What are you talking about? He turned away from the pitch and it hit him square in the back. To avoid it he would have had to have jumped on the plate.

he could have walked. he could have ducked. he could have leaned forward or back. He had a ton of options because that pitch was so slow. He instead chose the part of his body it struck.

He could have caught that thing bare handed

True, he probably could have gotten out of the way, but anytime a pitch is that far inside, the batter is always awarded the base. I've never seen it not happen. If he leaned into a pitch that wasn't heading straight into the batter's box, maybe he isn't given the base...but that pitch was heading into the batter's box. I doubt any hitter in the league does what you're thinking.

the hitter might not, but it's not up to the hitter to award the base. When was the last time you saw an umpire not give the base on a HBP? We've seen guys like biggio stick their armored elbows into balls that are almost strikes and get bases. This is a problem with the umpires failing to follow the rules.

what's all that crap have to do with who should be an all-star in '07?
