I always get optimistic heading into these Sox series that if we play well this weekend, we'll get hot and take off. When we don't I think we're doomed for a losing streak. Of course reality lies somewhere in between.

 

Today marks the first day of the rest of our season. With our schedule, 11-5 is realistic heading into the all-star break.

When I look at the batter-pitcher matchups against left-handers, normally Jacque's numbers are bad but they aren't usually this bad:

 

1 for 27, 1 RBI, 12 K, .037/.037/.037

 

Ouch.

 

Unfortunately, Soriano is 4 for 26 (with a double and a home run though).

DeRosa is 6 of 17 with 2 doubles and a home run.

Aramis is 2 of 8 with a double and a walk.

Lee is 4 of 6 with 2 doubles and a home run.

Pagan is 3 of 6.

Z is 1 of 3 with a HR

No clues on who to start at SS today-Izturis is 1 of 5, Theriot 1 of 4.

 

The other side doesn't look pretty-Mackowiak, Konerko, Dye, Pierzynski, and Thome have all hit Z hard.

Normally I just hope to see the Cubs win a series. But it's getting to the point where they have to take advantage of the matchups agianst the worst teams by sweeping a series or two.

 

After the White Sox the Cubs face a hot Rockies team and the Brewers. If they lose all three series, and Milwaukee wins their series against KC and HOU, the Cubs are suddenly 11.5 back and pretty much out of it.

That's just today. The teams are alternating; Cubs on WGN today, CSN tomorrow, and WGN on Sunday (the Sox will do the reverse).

Fox didn't want to pick up this miserable series (lol) and ESPN declined to take over the Sunday game which had a TBA time for a long while. This time around, each broadcasting crew will do all three games on alternating networks (WGN & CSN).
