This is being rumored as having happened already all over the trading floor. Should I chalk this up to one guy hearing the rumor, spreading it and it slowly becoming a fact?

I hope it goes down just so I can be excited about something.

I'm not sure I'd give up Marshall for Griffey.

I'd rather have Dunn. :)

I don't know. If they each had equal injury probability, I would definitely take Junior even at his age. In reality, it's a tough call for me.

bout to talk about Griffy to the cubs on Mike and Mike

I'll summarize later.

Any updates on this?

I listened and the guy they had on there claimed the Cubs have been forbidden to take on more salary because of the impending sale. So basically the opposite of everything we have read.

So, who knows?

=D> =D> =D> =D>

If that's true it really limits the amount of damage Hendry can do. He won't be able to trade for impact players unless he moves the likes of Jones, Howry, Dempster, and Eyre.

Oh he won't be able to trade for impact players at all. Impact players come with a cost regardless of who you move and if he's not able to take on salary. . . oh forget it. This team's dead to me.

Having already happened? I think it would've broken by now.

I'm getting more and more excited about the possibility of Junior being traded to the Cubs. I doubt it'll happen though.

I'll admit, I am too, but it's not gonna happen.

I really thought this rumor would die about as fast as it rose. With the espn rumors claiming Griffey said he would want to go the Cubs it won't die.

Jayson Stark on ESPNews, "absolutely no truth to this".

Said if the Cubs could take on any money right now they would give it to Zambrano, not use it in acquiring Griffey who is owed around 20 million the next couple years.

That was just Mike Golic speculating that they wouldnt be able to add any more payroll. He also said Griffey was too much of an injury risk. They quoted Buster Onley (I believe) saying he heard Griffey is telling his "camp" he wouldn't mind a trade to the Cubs.

I would love to add his bat to the lineup. Trade Jones, Marshall or Gallagher, low level prospect & Floyd to the Reds for Griffey, who then can turn Floyd over to an team that needs an OF/DH bat (Angels, M's, Dodgers, Phillies) for more (relief!) pitchers.

The Reds get Jones, Marshall/Gallagher, and some prospects from Floyd. They are off the hook on the Griffey contract and can trade Jones in the offseason if need be.

The NL/AL team gets a good bat whos having a decent season in Floyd.

The Cubs get Griffey, bring up Murton & put Gallagher/Marshall in the rotation for the rest of the year.

Soriano LF

Pie CF

Lee 1B

Griffey RF

Aram 3B

DeRosa 2B

Bowen C

Theriot/Izturis SS

I'd love to see Griffey hit 600 in a Cubs uni. We can rotate Pie, Griffey and Floyd. WE have about 100 games left. I'd want Griffey and Pie to play 80 a piece and Floyd to play the other 40. Griffey may be a great influence on Pie as well.

He's talking between center and right-the 3 of them could cover the 2 positions with Pie playing 80 in CF, Floyd playing 40 in RF, and Griffey playing 60 in RF and 20 in CF.

still more worried about shortstop than right field, but griffey is more of an upgrade over any of our guys than whoever may be available at short would be over derosa/theriot/izturis.

guess i just don't see this as a real possibility, and would be completely stunned to see something happen here. not that we don't have the chips to do so... hendry has just been so bad for so long, it's tough to believe.

also, if the deal is done, maybe this is what is holding it up?:

Griffey, perhaps the best all-around player to ever suit up for the Mariners, returns to Seattle for the first time since being traded to the Reds seven years ago as the teams open a three-game series Friday night.

Seattle (37-32) has set aside 15 minutes prior to Friday's game to pay tribute to Griffey, who went to 10 straight All-Star games during his 11-year career with the Mariners. Griffey was the AL's MVP in 1997 and won nine Gold Gloves before Cincinnati acquired him prior to the 2000 season.

I'm sure it's not anywhere close to done, there's a lot of dopes controlling the price of agriculture in this country.

If Griffey were to come, he should never touch CF. He can't hack it anymore.

So when we trade for A-Rod, we'll have Soriano, Junior, Aramis, D-Lee and A-Rod in our everyday lineup. I can deal with that.

Eh, it's alright.

wow, TWO A-Rods?

TOTAL SPECULATION ALERT!!!

I wonder if Griffey asked the Reds to hold off on a trade to the Cubs until after his series with Seattle. With all the festivities planned, it might be something he'd request. And with the Reds knowing they're already playing for next year and not this year, they might be willing to accomodate Griffey and hold off until after the series with the Mariners is over.

Just a little speculation to keep the hopes of getting Ken Griffey Jr.

That's already been mentioned in this thread, and for Premium users, it's at the top of this page (page 8).

Anyway, that theory certainly worked wonders for Barrett, who has not 1 but 2 promotional nights coming up. Oops. :)
