I find it insulting that David Wright is ranked at #49 with a line of:

.279/.374/.511/.885 12HR 34RBI

And with SB aside, Aramis can't even crack the Top 100 with a line of:

.299/.352/.540/.892 13HR 39RBI

I don't think I like the amount of importance they are putting on certain things.

The more I read this, I less I like it.

Why is batting average even included? Wins?!?!

How about instead of just runs produced, they factor in how many opportunities the hitter had to drive someone in?

Edited to add: 1300 posts! 1301, here I come.

like the world needs another metric for baseball (and a horrible one). I like how ESPN just completely pretends that there are 100's of good metrics out there

And the ability to win factor?

Its in there...

Team win percentage, defensive position 5% each for batters

Wins weighted by win percentage 20% for pitchers

Saves and wins with blown save penalty 40%

Why are OBP and AVG both counted? That seems sort of redundant.

Well, it helps to make up for ignoring slg. a bit.

Because ESPN knew if they excluded BA they'd have all the lowest common denominator idiots whining about not including batting average, because it's a traditional stat.

Do they ignore SLG? Isn't that what batted based accumulated is supposed to be?

I disagree. They included it because they are lowest common deonominator idiots.

Yep. But you can bet we'll have it run down our throats during ESPN broadcasts.
