His value is only going to go down from here and this team is not going to win while he is playing (possibly living). Hendry ought to be on the phone with the likes of Cashman, the Tigers GM, Cleveland, Oakland, Anaheim. Get a big haul for Lee while you can.

I'd hate to lose one of the few consistent producers on this team, but I certainly see the rationale.

I think they can win with him if they got a smart GM.

But I'd be fine with getting a haul for him as well.

I'd prefer to keep him because the problem is Hendry will just trade him for another version of cesar izturis.

Maybe he'd trade him for Izturis himself.

"But Jim, Cesar Izturis is already on your roster."

"Oh."

I'm not trading DLee for anything less than enough to overhaul our entire roster with top prospects.

I would be ok with that if we had a good gm. We don't until we do mine as well get Lee around.

Nor will the Cubs - and they will continue to lose. If you think this is a dumb move, you are not very well informed. Lee is past prime. He is not going to get better. In fact, if he gets even close to 2005 again that will be surprising. But, his value on the market is very very high because he is productive and a large number of contending teams need 1b. I'm not sure what roster full of top prospects is but that is the kind of haul you could likely get for Lee.

Well they don't. Of course they can win WITH Lee, he obviously is not the problem. But reality is he is one of the few real chips the Cubs have that can net anything of value. Floyd, Barret, Eyre, Jones etc are only going to get garbage in return. Lee, Ramirez, Zambrano could net some real young talent. You don't have to trade all of them but you probably need to trade some of them. To me, Lee is the bigger risk between he and Ramirez for rapid decline due to his wrist injury and age. Zambrano needs to be signed or traded.

could go like this Z for Mark Teixera

Lee and Barrett for Wood, Mathis and Santana or Weaver or whatever pitcher you prefer and or maybe some other lesser prospects. Would change the team around and add lots of nice young talent.

Before people make more silly "Trade xxxxxxx for xxxxxxxx" posts regarding our stud players, keep something like this in mind:

DERREK LEE HAS A NO-TRADE CLAUSE

A little research before posting something as silly as trading away Derrek Lee, the man who has pretty much become the face of this franchise, is all I'm hoping for.

Trying to trade Derrek Lee would be the dumbest thing in the world for two reasons:

1) He's not the problem

2) We can't unless he waives it

Why wouldn't he waive it hell I been a cub fan all my life but at this point I sure as hell rather play baseball for the Angels then the cubs.

I'm sure Derrek would be happy to waive his NTC to go to a real organization.

Hmmm....nope, sorry...I don't think so. You seriously think selling Lee is gonna make the Cubs any better?

1. Hendry's track record has PROVEN he knows nothing about prospects, so you'd be getting crap in return.

2. Any decent prospect we did get in return would get ruined in our farm system.

No personal attacks. He was referring to your post, not you personally. Your calling him a moron is a personal attack.

Wow, your really think so? You don't think three talented young players would make the Cubs better for years to come? This is exactly the close-mindedness that keeps the Cubs in the cellar year after year after year. But hey, the beers cold, right?

Eventually, it will. And that's the goal, because this season, and possibly next, are in the john with the crap we have floating around.

Blow it all up and stockpile for '09, morons.

The fact that you don't think trading Lee will make the Cubs better is obscenely shortsighted.

Sorry partner. I was in the process of editing the post to remove the moron portion as you wrote your post.

Wow, maybe even if you make it bigger and redder it will make your point relevant!
