that 37:8 K:BB is godly for a pitcher. Its bush league for a hitter.

screw colvin i want snyder.

I realize that a thread like this is designed to create controversy, and get attention but its not like his .829 OPS prior to today or his .340 OBP is that terrible.

The .034 IsoD isn't pretty though...I would have expected more out of a top-15 college guy from the ACC in high-A ball.

ROWELL

ISOD of .103

Sure he's not hitting for power, but he's like 13 years old, it will come.

But Rowell went at 9. I would have preferred him or Lincecum but neither fell. :(

3 picks after Lincecum. That's all, three. Stupid Cubs couldn't be 4 games worse.

That's really frustrating.

Colvin seems to be fitting right in with the rest of the organization's hitters. I still think it's way too early to be calling him out. At least it turned out to be a better pick than our first rounder in 05.

Yeah, I want a DH.

Colvin rules.

rules at what? not getting on base? His OBP was a slightly less than spectacular .313 last year in rookie ball. A first round draft pick from a major college should be able to do better than that. I'd have taken Matt Antonelli ahead of Colvin, no question.

Neither is a particularly good number either. I want something more from a 1st round pick than not terrible.

I haven't been paying close attention to Colvin this year, but taking a look now and he's been completely unimpressive. Add in the piss poor year of Samardzija and last year's draft is looking quite shaky.

Colvin's k/bb is now 40/8, with a line of .299/.333/.478. Hope to see the kid get it together soon.

It's the Cubs. Those numbers would be 3rd on the team.

We'll see how his power looks when he gets out of the bandboxes in the California and Texas Leagues. His IsoD is nice, no question, but I'm skeptical about any power numbers that come out of those leagues.

Low OBP and bad BB/K ratio spells disaster. He's going to hammered when he faces better pitchers without improving his strike zone judgement.

Im not very hopeful of him so far.

2 of his walks are intentional also. The good thing about Colvin, though, is he is the type of hitter that can maintain a decent batting average. His strike outs aren't horrible, but his K rate has been pretty consistent as a pro so far.

He's only 21 so there is plenty of room for improvement.

I don't think he will be a great power hitter, but I can see him averaging about 15-20 per year and ending up as a Youkilis type of hitter.

.313/.343/.504/.848

9 BB, 45 K in 224 AB

By my calculations, all he has to do is walk in 15 consecutive plate appearances to have a very solid BB/PA ratio.

It could happen...

There's been talk that he'll get promoted sometime in the second half. I know he's hitting well, but I really would like to see him improve his BB/K before he goes to AA, eventually it's going to catch up with him.

I don't know. I think I'd rather see him promoted. When it does catch up to him, a little failure will help him work harder on changing his ways. Also then when he does adjust, he'll be adjusted to AA or AAA pitching rather than single A pitching.

I just think it's a hard sell to a guy who's having success like he's having to suddenly start being more selective with his pitches.

Well thats not a very good walk/strikeout ratio I will grant you. I'm thinking thou that Colvin has a much better chance to play the outfield vs your rotund 258 lbs and 5'10 guy who's currently has 8 errors in the outfield playing left/right field and according to a Lansing paper, he even got hit in the chest with a line drive, unless we have a dh which I havent been told about, we might want to get some guys who catch the ball in the outfield, we seem to have this problem in the major leagues also. I read in an article that the Blue Jays were very upset when Snider walked into camp at 258 and older 19 yr old with a mature body. We'll see how it turns out, but Im betting Mr Colvin will figure some things out at the plate and by the way 311 isnt too bad in a pitcher league and 2nd in the league in rbi's and doubles and playing a good centerfield.
