The Cubs have lost power and need it turned on immediately. Aramis is exempt from this discussion with his 12 HRs. Lee's HRs as mentioned on the board is way down but at least you could say he is hitting the ball hard.

The lack of HR power in the outfield is crazy bad.

Soriano=4

Murton=1

Floyd=2

Jones=1

All 4 of these guys SLG% is significantly off their norms. 550 at bats and only 8 HRs. That is like having 3 So Taguchi's roaming the outfield. Maybe Lou really would be better off with midgets in the outfield, because thats about all they got for instant power out there. Whatta riddle this power outage is.

Not a riddle at all, its the Cubs, if Barry Bonds were a Cub, he probably be on the DL but, if weren't he'd have only a couple of HR's.

Is there nothing that can be done? I'm just asking. If power is down, maybe something is wrong with a given hitter, and that would mean spending some time with the hitting coach, etc. Not so sure that on the pro level I buy into "nothing can be done" and just wait it out.

the biggest concerns for me are Soriano, Lee and Jones. I didn't expect a whole lot from Jones, but i expected more power than this. floyd and murton are concerning, but not as much so because i just didn't expect as much, power-wise.

It boggles my mind that all of these guys are so down in power. The only thing I can think of is Gerald Perry's teaching having something to do with it, or someone is screwing with the ball or bats. What are the chances of all these guys being so far off thier career norms? Freaking weird.

Other than Lee and Soriano, none of this really surprises me. I thought Soriano would hit for plenty of power but his AVG and OBP would regress quite a bit. So far it's looking like the opposite is happening. It's hard to figure out Lee also.

As for the rest, Floyd is an old player whose skills have been rapidly declining due to injury and age. Murton never projected from the minors to hit for as much power as he did last season. Jones is slumping early but we shouldn't expect greatness from a guy with a career OPS of .783 who's playing out of position and quite likely unhappy about it. Barrett has never had great power and his lack of power comes from the overall slump in his hitting.

Interesting side note, remember when 3b was a 'cursed' position that went through like 30 guys since Ron Santo?

Don't have to "remember". Look no farther than SS and you sorta get a deja vu tingling sensation.

Ha. Never thought I'd wish for Shawon Dunston as much as I do now.

Yeah...back in 88 did anyone think he'd have been in the conversation when talking about the most consistent hitting short stops the Cubs would have over the next 20 years?

I am not that surprised that Lee doesn't have as many HRs as he is one year removed from a severe wrist injury. Just because he is healed does not mean that he is back to full strength.
