[i have seen the collapse of 69, the 70s and early 80s, collapse against San Diego in 84(my favorite player leon durham being the goat), a good young looking team in 89 turning to crap the next couple of years, a GM saying it is better to have 2 good pitchers(Greg Hibbard and ?) than one great pitcher(Maddux),
Jose Guzman was the other pitcher signed to replace Maddux.

And if I remmeber it right he had a spectacular debut. And nothing after that!

Actually he was fairly decent in 1992. He was 12-10 with a 4.34 ERA, 2 complete games, and 1 shutout (that was the debut you remembered, a 1-hit 1-0 shutout over the Braves and John Smoltz).

The good news is that there are no different ways for the Cubs to lose now. They've succeeded at losing in every possible way imagineable. Therefore, there will be no new surprises. Every loss from this point forward will just be redundant in nature.

Carry on.

Well, the loss from last night was a new experience for me this season. I don't think we'd allowed a walkoff HBP so far this season.

Eh. I really am indifferent about this team anymore. I'm still going to go to games, i'm still going to cheer my you-know-what off, but If they lose...then meh. I've seen it before.

Yeah this is how I try to feel before I get sucked in.

I try not to get too involved. But you know deep down it dissapoints you just as much when they lose.

i'm puzzled as to why all the "experts" still insist that the cubs will be neck and neck with the brew-ha-has as the season winds down.

Cause the Brew crew sucks also. This division is who can suck the least come Aug and Sept because nobody is pulling away with this thing.

Nope just the new way for the Cubs to torture us. Usually we know we suck and are out of it by June. This year we know we suck, but they are going to torture us by stayin within 3-5 games all year. That way we can keep saying, just all we need is a hot streak. And come Sept we will once again go home, and this time without a high draft pick.

I find it hard to believe the Cubs will suck worse than 5 other teams. Some team will step forward. Unless someone can fix our famine or famine worse one-shot offense it won't be this team.

The Brewers are sinking like a stone. The Cubs would be in a deep hole in a real division but they still have as good a chance as anybody to win the NL Central. It might actually be won with a losing record.

Bump

5 back with 103 to play.

lol its funny how every time the cubs lose consecutive games another thread like this pops up and then the cubs play well and the people eat crow. well untill that late september one that is, hopefully they will be eating crow all the way to the parade, i will be skipping school NO MATTER WHAT!

I didn't bump this thread with the intent of making people eat crow. I couldn't care less about that.

I am simply in awe of the fact that all they have to is win 4 of 5 and they back are in this thing like last week never happened. Our div. is amazingly bad and we are easily the most talanted team. Can we just find some consistency? If they finish with 85 wins they ought to win this thing.

Does anyone remember the South Park where the baseball teams tried to lose so they didn't have to keep playing. They actually practiced sucking.
